Hyuga Tenka returned to Konoha, avenged the Hyuga Clan against Danzō’s Root, and took charge of Team 7. After training Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura, he led them to the Wave Country, where Zabuza abandoned his contract against Tenka and later settled with Haku after killing Gato.

• Tenka returned to Konoha, reunited with Hizashi and Neji, and discovered that Root had attacked his family and wounded Neji.
• Tenka slaughtered Root forces, and the Hyuga Clan joined him as he confronted Danzō and defeated him with the Golden Wheel Reincarnation Explosion.
• Tenka agreed to lead Team 7, challenged Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura to prove themselves, and began training them in chakra control and combat.
• Tenka sent Team 7 to exterminate bandits, where Sakura fought bravely and Naruto used the Nine-Tails’ chakra to kill his opponents.
• Tenka chose a mission to protect Tazuna, and Team 7 killed the Demon Brothers before Zabuza recognized Tenka and fled with Haku.
• Tenka confronted Tazuna over concealing the mission’s danger, while Zabuza and Haku killed Gato and kept the money from his shipping company.
• After a month of training, Sasuke awakened his Double Tomoe Sharingan, Sakura mastered the Mystical Palm Technique, and Naruto learned to enter the Three-Tails state.

Tenka led Team 7 through dangerous missions and into the Chunin Ninja Exams, where Naruto and his teammates faced powerful rivals and Orochimaru. After the preliminary matches, Tenka repaired Little Lee’s severe injuries, and the finals began with Neji overwhelming Naruto.

• The Nine Rookies gathered by a river before Team 7 completed a brutal B-Rank mission and earned Tenka’s recommendation for the Chunin Ninja Exams.
• Naruto freed Konohamaru from Kankuro, then Gaara challenged Team 7 and set a dangerous rivalry in motion.
• Team 7 faced hostility from the other exam candidates, passed Ibiki Morino’s written test, and entered the Forest of Death.
• Orochimaru attacked Team 7 in the forest, but Tenka drove him off, took the Ryūchi Cave summoning contract, and later helped Karin escape the Hidden Grass Village’s control.
• Team 7 reached the Central Tower, and the preliminary matches produced wins for Sasuke, Shino Aburame, Kankuro, Shikamaru Nara, Naruto, and others.
• Little Lee pushed himself against Gaara by opening the Gates, but Gaara broke his limbs and left him with injuries that threatened his future as a ninja.
• Tenka treated Team 7 to grilled meat, assigned their training, helped them settle into a new home with Karin, and agreed to operate on Little Lee.
• Tenka successfully repaired Little Lee’s injuries, and a month later Neji struck Naruto with Eight Trigrams Two Hundred Fifty-Six Palms in the first final match.
