Lin Hai watched the Demon God Pioneer struggle in vain like a moth caught in a spider web. His tightly set mouth finally curled upward into a deeply satisfied grin.
Damn it! That's what you get for ambushing me last time! And you tried to blow up Gwen? You must have a death wish! The thought burned through him, bringing a rush of long-awaited satisfaction.
But he did not rush in to finish it off. There were two reasons.
First, he was a "ground unit." A burst of energy could keep him airborne briefly or propel him at high speed, but he still could not truly fly or attack aerial targets effectively.
The Demon God Pioneer was trapped, yet it could still dart up and down inside its cage of vines, desperately searching for a way out. Lin Hai lacked an attack that could settle the fight in one blow.
It was not impossible to bring it down. He could wrap it tightly in vines and drag it to the ground. But that would take a great deal of Life Force.
Which brought him to the second, more practical reason: after everything he had spent, his Life Force was running low.
He had thrown out nearly half his energy without restraint to provoke Pluto in the vacuum of space. Then came his desperate flight. Ancient One's magic had done most of the work, but his own energy had been helping all along.
He had recovered quite a bit of Life Force while fleeing and later while facing off against the Demon God Pioneer. But creating this hundred-meter-wide "modified pseudo-Deep Forest Emergence" had consumed another substantial amount in one go.
Whew... No wonder this ultimate skill has such a long cooldown. Lin Hai sat cross-legged and devoted himself to recovery.
