In the crater, Lin Hai had already tried lifting Mjolnir and was ready to leave. He said to Coulson, "Agent Coulson, we're going to take a look around the nearby town."
Lin Hai pointed into the crater. "If this is a hammer, someone must use it. We'll look around Puente Antiguo. Who knows? We might find something unexpected."
Coulson nodded. His assignment was to establish a temporary camp here and study the mysterious hammer with scientific instruments. Lin Hai and the others could not help much with that, so they might as well visit the town.
"Wait a moment." Coulson took a set of keys from his pocket and handed them to Lin Hai. "You might need these."
He pointed to a row of black vehicles parked nearby. "The town is about fifty miles from here. Even driving takes an hour or two. You can't walk there."
Lin Hai accepted the keys. He had no reason to refuse Coulson's kindness. They could go straight there through a Portal, but driving through the desert and taking in the scenery sounded pleasant too.
"Thanks," he said.
When Coulson saw him take the keys, he added, "As it happens, I need to find someone in that town myself. His name is Erik Selvig, an astrophysicist. I believe the data he gathered over the past two days will help us study last night's unusual celestial phenomenon and this mysterious hammer."
Lin Hai nodded. "Then let's go."
Puente Antiguo was a typical desert town in New Mexico.
Its streets were narrow, with low buildings on either side and faded advertisements painted on the walls. The occasional passing car kicked up a cloud of dust. People sat in a small roadside diner, sipping coffee and watching the world outside.
The S.H.I.E.L.D. convoy stood out in the
