Noticing something wrong with Esme, Miles's expression changed. He stepped forward and forcefully pressed a hand against her head.

He tried to use his own psychic power to forcibly sever Esme's connection to the distant New York "Frost Network."
However, the invisible Psionic Barrier had barely formed in her mind before it was brutally torn apart from within by a force of the same origin, yet far more domineering!

Miles quickly realized it was almost useless. The power of the Frost Network shared Esme's origin—she herself was part of that power! The influence did not come from outside, but from deep within her own heart!
"What's wrong with her?" Psylocke immediately rushed over. Seeing Esme's pained state, her expression turned grim.
"Her sister Phoebe is forcibly merging with her consciousness... Her mind is being drained dry."
Miles looked awful. He could clearly feel Esme's psychic energy being wildly sucked away by an invisible vortex, like floodwaters pouring through a broken dam.
He watched helplessly as Esme's violent convulsions gradually subsided, her breathing weakened, and she finally went completely limp in her seat. The last glimmer of life in those azure eyes died like a candle in the wind, leaving behind empty gray-white.
"From such a distance..." Psylocke had also vaguely sensed the terrifying psychic reaction coming from afar. She muttered in disbelief, "What kind of power is that?"
"That's psychic power approaching Omega-level. The Shadow King is about to descend in his true form..."
