Ancient Egypt, the Eternal Temple, central control room.
Miles sat in a floating chair, operating more than a dozen engineering drones at once. Sparks from their laser welders flickered through the ruined hall, illuminating ancient hieroglyphs and severed energy conduits alike.
Kang Taijun's rampage had left much of the temple badly damaged. If Miles wanted to harness its full power, he needed to repair as much of it as possible.
"Uodo..."
Miles looked down at the Kang Taijun Core, now quiet again, and recalled his recent conversation with Uodo, the "War Spirit."
His suspicions had been right. Uodo was connected to the Black Spirit King. Much like Aurora, he was an intelligent life-form the Black Spirit King had created with his own abilities.
But something was very wrong with Uodo.
Some strange force seemed to have affected his consciousness. His sense of self was deeply confused, and his memories were riddled with gaps. Even Miles could extract little useful information from his mind.
One thing was certain: Uodo was terrifyingly aggressive. He had a primal urge to devour and assimilate anything technological. Unlike Miles's Electronic Infiltration, Uodo's assimilation was physical and brutally direct.
At this point, Uodo was less an intelligent being than a starving demon crawled out of data hell.
Miles could not understand how a life born of human reason and digital logic could have become something like that.
That was also why Miles had suppressed and sealed him again as soon as the battle ended.
Perhaps because Uodo had once been the Black Spirit King's creation, he obeyed Miles's every command without the slightest desire to resist. That saved Miles a great deal of trouble. Given Uodo's destructive power, forcing him into submission would have taken considerable effort.
The Black Spirit King...
Thinking of that "kindred spirit"
