"What's going on?"
"Is that Quire? Is he fighting someone?"
Outside the room, the other Mutants' expressions changed at once.
At the same time, an invisible shockwave erupted from the room!
Boom!
The air seemed to buckle under a blow from some unseen giant. The metal sheeting on the walls caved in, the hanging incandescent bulbs swung wildly, and panes of glass shattered one after another.
Two immense psychic forces collided around the room. Pink and deep-blue psionic energy spread outward, forming a mental storm so dense it was almost tangible.
Radian, who stood closest, felt as if a sledgehammer had struck his skull. His vision went black, and he staggered against the wall.
"Damn it!"
The blond young man, Vincent, jerked his head up.
"Quire's serious!"
"Don't tell me that kid can wield power on that level too?!"
Inside the room, the air felt almost frozen.
The Negative Zone Key hung between them, making faint clicking sounds.
After several seconds of deadlock, Quentin's expression grew serious.
As their telekinetic struggle dragged on, both had begun exerting mental pressure as well. Yet nothing changed.
Quentin could clearly sense that the other boy's psychic power was slightly weaker than his own. If it came down to raw strength alone, he was confident he could overpower him.
The problem was, he couldn't break him.
To Quentin's senses, the kid's mental defenses were terrifyingly resilient!
Miles, for his part, was just as surprised by Quentin. Apart from Madeleine, he had never met a Mutant his own age whose psychic power surpassed his.
But that was all.
Since his birth in the Alkali Laboratory, Miles had faced too many enemies whose mental power far exceeded his own: Obadiah, Mr. Sinister, Cassandra, Shadow King... He had even endured the pressure of Arishem and Abraxas.
