Ravencroft Institute, underground isolation ward.
"Electro," Max Dillon, was locked onto a metal platform beneath layers upon layers of restraints. Harsh lights shone down from overhead, leaving every inch of his skin and flesh exposed.
Standing before him was a researcher in a white lab coat and glasses.
"You were involved in a terrible accident, Max."
Doctor Kafka adjusted his glasses, deliberately slowing his voice in an attempt to create a soothing atmosphere. "I'm Doctor Kafka. I'm here to help you."
Max did not even lift his eyelids. There was no emotion on his calm face, but his voice carried the distinctive rasp of electrical currents.
"So that's why you prepared all these military-grade bio-stimulation electrodes and high-intensity capacitors made by the Osborn Group... They're all meant to help me, right?"
Seeing through his disguise so easily exposed, Doctor Kafka stopped pretending. He adjusted his glasses and said coldly, "You're right. I'm here to study you... to find out exactly what you are."
With that, he stopped wasting words and lowered his head to enter commands into the terminal in his hand.
First, a standard dose of electric shock. Let this disobedient test subject suffer a little, and the subsequent research would proceed more smoothly.
The command was entered.
Confirmed.
Yet Max's anticipated scream of agony never came. The restraints on the platform showed no response at all.
"What's going on?" Doctor Kafka checked the screen in confusion, only to find it completely black.
"Creak... crackle..."
Faint bursts of electricity came from every direction. The overhead lights began flickering violently, going out one after another.
The operating indicators on every instrument, along with the red lights of the backup power supply, all fell silent. Within three seconds, the entire isolation ward was swallowed by pitch-black darkness and dead silence.
