Two days later, outside Grand River Valley, Colorado.
A large cargo truck stopped at the highway junction.
The door opened, and Cable slowly stepped out. Across the junction, he spotted several representatives from Oasis, led by its current leader, "Polaris," Lorna Dane.
"We meet again, Lorna."
Cable called out to her.
She did not approach immediately, merely watching Cable from a distance as several more trucks pulled up behind him.
"Nathan Summers."
Her gaze settled on the tightly covered cargo compartments, her expression less than friendly. "Kurt told me the academy needed help, but he never said you would be the ones showing up here... are you planning to move the entire Resistance Army here?"
"They ran into trouble. I imagine you've already heard."
Cable shook his head. "As for us... most of the people you see here are civilians from the academy, children and wounded people. We won't stay here long. You can rest assured."
Lorna's expression eased a little at his answer.
It was not that she personally disliked Cable. Rather, the Resistance Army he represented had strained relations with Vespera. If he stayed in Oasis for long, it would almost certainly bring a string of complications, and the last thing Oasis wanted now was to be dragged into the fighting outside.
Yet that thought reminded Lorna of the news she had received not long ago-Ororo and the other mutants would be publicly executed in a month.
It was a political announcement the Black Spirit King had formally issued to the entire world in Vespera's name. There was no chance it was false.
"Whew..."
Lorna took a deep breath and looked at Cable. "All right, Nathan."
"Then, aside from that, is there anything else?"
"Of course." Cable nodded, his expression grave. "Lorna, I'm here to form an alliance."
