Chu Hang closed his eyes.
His consciousness sank inward through the point where his palm touched the trident. It felt as though he had been dragged into deep water, with thick, clinging darkness all around him.
The man appeared before him.
The artifact spirit's outline trembled, his entire body twisting. It was as though invisible hands were pulling him in different directions from every side, warping every inch of his skin. His expression shifted from shock to terror in just two or three seconds.
"Impossible... how did you..."
The man forced the words from deep in his throat, his voice broken and halting.
"This is my domain... I'm the trident's master..."
He choked off before he could finish.
The Law of Death within Chu Hang was absorbing the energy inside the trident. The power that had belonged to the artifact spirit seemed to have found an outlet, pouring into his body like mad. Every strand carried the aura of decay and finality.
But Chu Hang's system of laws was like an enormous net, devouring everything that came its way.
The artifact spirit's face began to contort.
"You... what kind of monster are you..."
His voice held fear. Genuine fear.
Chu Hang did not answer. He had no time for this guy right now.
The changes within his body were too intense.
Hela's divine power of death had been nothing more than an appetizer. What Chu Hang had copied from her had brought him to the threshold of the Law of Death, but that was all. Hela's abilities relied more on the boost she received from Asgard. Her own understanding of death was actually quite shallow.
Killing people, resurrecting an army of the dead, controlling necromantic flames—these were techniques, not the underlying truth.
The Dark Trident was different.
