Background

Wanda and her twin brother Pietro were orphaned Sokovians subjected to Hydra experimentation. The death of their parents in a Stark Industries shelling, followed by Hydra’s experiments and years of instability, left Wanda deeply traumatized and highly vulnerable to emotional overload 131 134.

Steve Rogers brings the twins to the Avengers as new interns, believing they deserve a chance to rebuild their lives. At their first Avengers party, Wanda is withdrawn, pale, and struggling to contain the crowd’s thoughts and emotions as Chaos Magic leaks from her hands 131.
