Background and History

Tony is kidnapped in Afghanistan by the Ten Rings and held alongside Yinsen. Forced to build weapons for his captors, he instead constructs the first Iron Man armor. Chu Hang infiltrates the camp, accelerates the armor’s construction, and deliberately allows Yinsen’s sacrifice to give Tony the time to escape. Tony destroys the camp’s stored Stark Industries weapons before being recovered by the U.S. military. 81

Returning from captivity, Tony publicly announces the permanent closure of Stark Industries’ weapons division after recognizing where his weapons have been used. His Arc Reactor simultaneously begins poisoning him with palladium, leaving him physically weakened and desperate for a solution. 82
