The moonlight was as black as ink.

Cheng Yang stood in the main hall of the Four-Ping Gang's stronghold. Broken Stream had just withdrawn from the neck of the last gang member, blood sliding down the blade and spreading into a small patch of dark wetness on the floor.

A dense, orderly wave of footsteps suddenly sounded outside.

More than a dozen City Guard soldiers filed in, their dark light armor glinting dully beneath the moon.

The squad leader stepped over the threshold, his gaze sweeping over the corpses strewn across the room before stopping on Cheng Yang's Fang Mask.

"Fangtooth Ghost?" His voice paused, then abruptly rose, carrying the forced bravado of someone trying to suppress the scene with official authority. "The City Guard is conducting business. All unrelated parties, leave at once!"

Cheng Yang merely lifted his eyelids. His gaze swept across them, then he paid them no further attention. His eyes returned to Broken Stream's blade as he used his fingertips to wipe away the last trace of blood, neither hurried nor slow.

One City Guard soldier had already placed his hand on his sword hilt, but the squad leader grabbed his wrist and stopped him.

"Leave." The squad leader lowered his voice.

After weighing the strength of both sides, the squad leader chose to retreat.

Though they had more than a dozen men, he alone was at the Copper Bone Realm.

Most of the rest were merely at Skin Tempering.

Fangtooth Ghost was a ruthless man who could even slaughter Force Tempering Martial Masters. Killing them would be far too easy.

There was no need to seek death themselves...

If you won't leave, then I will, all right?

The group filed out of the hall, moving more than twice as fast as when they had entered.
