"Move it, move it! Get a move on, you worthless gits!
"Grab the sweet, tender little Gretchin and run. Don't let the Big Mek catch you, or he'll give your arses a proper kiss with his iron boots!"
An Ork Nobz in Power Armor, two and a half meters tall, came trotting into Garbage Mountain with a dozen or so Ork Boys, none of them quite two meters tall. They were here to catch Gretchin to eat.
Greenskin Orks could survive on photosynthesis alone, but they still had appetites. They wanted tasty food.
To Greenskin Orks, one of the best things was mushroom wine, brewed from mushrooms grown in the Mushroom Field. Gretchin usually did the brewing.
The second was roast Squig.
Squigs were usually fleshy balls with big mouths and two legs. They even looked kind of cute.
Squigs were an inseparable part of Ork society, and there were many varieties.
Clever Squigs could be kept as pets and bring their owners joy. Squigs with tasty meat became food.
Some Squigs could grow as tall as a Knight Mech. Those giant Squigs could serve as war mounts.
Other Squigs secreted something like fuel. When Greenskin Ork war machines ran short, those Squigs could supply what they needed.
Almost all the Greenskin Orks' fuel on this planet came from the Coking Oil equipment beneath the Death Vein.
But Li Qinwu had blown the place up with a nuclear bomb. The underground coal mine had caught fire, and all the Coking Oil equipment had burned down.
With no other choice, the Ork Warboss and the Big Meks had issued an order: no more eating Squigs.
Every Squig had to be rounded up and penned so they could produce fuel and get the war machines moving again as soon as possible.
