Sakura had fallen for Kaede.
To be fair, there were plenty of high-quality boys in this year's Ninja Academy class.
Besides Kaede, there were also the two prodigies, Naruto and Sasuke.
Naruto was outstanding, but the halo of his parents was too overwhelming, and it had fostered in him the overbearing temperament of a spoiled heir. Sakura could not really appreciate that, since she was not such a mercenary girl.
Sasuke was just as outstanding. His looks could rival Kaede's, and while his family background was slightly inferior to Naruto's, he still came from a prestigious clan.
If Kaede had never appeared, I probably would have fallen for Sasuke. Sakura often thought this.
Nothing was more frightening than comparison.
Compared to Kaede, Sasuke always carried a trace of childishness that he had yet to outgrow, and that cost him a lot of points!
Kaede, meanwhile, possessed a restraint and maturity beyond his years. That was simply devastating to girls their age.
Sakura was far from the only girl in class who liked Kaede.
Even though Kaede had a poor reputation due to his background, Sakura did not care in the slightest. If anything, she felt that tragic aura had deeply struck a chord with her.
What Sasuke and Naruto lacked was probably that very sense of tragedy. Born with silver spoons in their mouths, they had been ahead from the moment they were born. Their lives ahead would surely be smooth sailing as well.
