Hyuga Satoru reorganized Root and welcomed Kakashi, who asked for the power to avenge his father. Satoru offered him a chance to gain strength with a newly developed Adamantium Injection Device.

• Hyuga Satoru persuaded Root's ninja to accept his leadership and began reforming the organization with Hyuga researchers and firearms training.
• Kakashi arrived at Root and was shocked by how completely Hyuga Satoru had transformed it.
• Kakashi told Hyuga Satoru he wanted to become stronger and hinted at seeking revenge against the remaining leaders responsible for Hatake Sakumo's tragedy.

• Toneri’s father dismissed Pain as a puppet, and the two clashed with Shinra Tensei and the Giant Tenseigan’s repulsive force while Hyuga Satoru watched from above.

Obito went to Nanga Shrine to find the hidden stone tablet, but Uchiha Rin ambushed him and used her Mangekyo ability to disrupt his phasing. As Uchiha reinforcements approached, Obito retreated, leaving the shrine and its secrets behind.
