On some day, in some month, in some year, in a small room on the sixth floor of some apartment building, a young man sat before his computer watching a Naruto ranking video on some site. "Minato is still the coolest." He had sharp brows, bright eyes, and a graceful build, only slightly less handsome than the esteemed viewers in front of their phones. His name was unimportant, so let's call him Ed.
"He died way too early. By the time he showed up again, the whole era had changed." As Ed spoke, he grabbed a cola and chugged it down. When he put it back, the bottle slipped and spilled directly onto the power strip. Sparks flew everywhere!
Nothing happened.
No, the power strip was ruined.
Ed complained speechlessly, "I thought this was where an electrical leak would cause an explosion and send me to another world. Guess I really shouldn't read so many webnovels."
Suddenly, a horn blared—beep beep!—followed by a massive crash. A semi-truck burst straight in from outside and sent Ed flying. As his consciousness gradually faded, he vaguely heard, "I can ram my way into the sixth floor too! Kid, go start your happy new life!"
In a pure white space, "NICE! This month's KPI is complete!" Ed's consciousness slowly returned. Opening his eyes, he saw an endless white expanse and a golden ball of light bouncing up and down before him. Ed realized something. "Comrade... bouncy ball, my current situation is...?"
"Who are you calling a bouncy ball?!" The golden ball of light seemed furious. It bounced even harder a few times and spoke, "I am the god in charge of transmigration! In other novels, they all call me the Main God!"
"Isn't that setting a little cliché?" Ed calmly mocked.
"Then don't transmigrate. I'll just send you off to reincarnate. A third-tier city in Henan Province again, right?" The ball of light gave an equally calm reply.
"Godfather! Your son was presumptuous! I truly don't want to grind through the college entrance exam again. Please show mercy, Godfather!" Ed instantly lost his composure. Honestly, for kids from the four provinces around the Yellow River, unless they were geniuses or their families had money, life was truly difficult.
"Since you know when to back down, I'll let you off. Now then, business." The ball of light paused before continuing, "I'm the god in charge of transmigration. I saw that you signed up for transmigration in some book before, so I brought you here. Now, you have several choices. First: random ability, random world. Go adventuring freely through endless other worlds! Second: chosen ability, random world. Your start might go a little smoother that way. Third: chosen ability, chosen world."
(Registration Area)
"No matter how I look at it, chosen ability and chosen world sounds the best!" After thinking for a moment, Ed asked, "Since there are three options, there must be restrictions, right? Otherwise everyone would pick chosen ability and chosen world. If I picked a Beta Wand and went to World War II, wouldn't that be awesome? Let the Japanese talk to my Spacium Ray!"
"You're pretty smart. Of course there are restrictions. The first option is completely random. Like you said, getting a Beta Wand and going to World War II isn't impossible, but you could also get an average ability and end up in a strange world. For example, two people chose the first option before you. One got the Power of the Galaxy and went to the Tiga World. I think he became some kind of advisor. The other got a black-tech gift pack and went to the prehistoric era, apparently during the war between the witches and demons."
"Is that senior doing okay...?" Ed trembled.
"No idea. The feedback afterward said that, for some reason, he didn't seem to be in human form anymore. He seemed to have become a sword."
"As expected, pure random is completely unplayable unless you're ridiculously lucky." Ed muttered. "So the prehistoric era is even an option. I know that genre is popular, but the survival pressure is maxed out. I don't usually read novels like that either. I'll choose the specified option. There's no way the specified option can screw me over. Godfather! Your son chooses a chosen ability and a chosen world!"
"Sure, but if you choose them, you can't pick something beyond the original world's power limit. For example, you can't take a Beta Wand to World War II, but you can bring a military manufacturing system or a supplies system to World War II." The ball of light spoke casually.
"Hmm... in that case, let me think. I should decide on the ability first!" Ed recalled Minato's cool performance in the last video he had watched before dying. "Right, I want to learn the Flying Thunder God and all kinds of ninjutsu!"
"Sure, but what about the world? Depending on the world you choose, your abilities will undergo slight adjustments outside of their original setting. For example, the chakra used by the Flying Thunder God would become magic power if you went to a fantasy world. As for ninjutsu, you might need to develop it yourself according to that world's specific system."
"If I go to the original Naruto World, I feel like I won't be able to beat those scheming bastards. I'd have to constantly outthink and outmaneuver them too. Just thinking about it is exhausting." Ed shivered and asked, "Can Godfather recommend somewhere?"
"Sure." The ball of light seemed to have been asked that question before. "First of all, the Flying Thunder God is ninjutsu, which can be considered a type of spell. So fantasy worlds are the most suitable. You won't be easily rejected by the local universe. What do you think of the Fairy Tail world? Your abilities would fit perfectly there, and if they're adjusted to use magic power, learning the local power system would be very convenient too."
"Fairy Tail... I watched some of it, but I don't remember the plot very clearly. All I remember is flashy magic circles everywhere, then someone shouting that they were a Fairy Tail wizard and steamrolling the enemy." Ed thought back. "But honestly, the female characters were incredible!"
"So? Is that the one?" the ball of light confirmed.
"Yes, that's the one." Ed made up his mind.
"Alright then. Fairy Tail world, Flying Thunder God ability, adjusted to magic power mode. As for ninjutsu, develop it yourself using magic power. Oh, and this time, it'll be bodily transmigration~" The ball of light extended a hand and tapped away at a screen. Then, as if recalling something, it told Ed, "However, in order for that world to accept you better, I'll need to reduce your physical age over there. As compensation, I'll improve your talent and comprehension and the like."
"Fine, works for me." Ed nodded.
"Alright, off you go!" The ball of light stuck out a foot and kicked Ed flying. "Go on, young man~ Oh, and I won't be changing your appearance for you."
A flash of white light passed by. Ed opened his eyes and saw a vast forest stretching as far as the eye could see. The towering trees blotting out the sky left him staring blankly. "Where the hell did you send me? Is this really the Fairy Tail world? It's impossible to tell this place apart from Konoha!"
As Ed stood there dazed, he suddenly felt something pawing at his body beside him. Turning his head, he saw only a huge, blood-filled maw, along with a wave of dampness and foul stench rushing toward him.
"Holy shit!" What the hell was that?! Ed jumped in fright and hurriedly dodged aside. Only then did he see the creature's full form. Its Tyrannosaurus-like body, savage appearance, and constantly dripping saliva all shook him to the core.
"Isn't the starting difficulty a little too high?!" Ed turned and ran, but how could an ordinary person outrun something with a head nearly as large as his own? Not to mention that his body had become smaller after transmigrating, and he could clearly feel that he was much shorter.
After only a few steps, Ed was caught up to. Just as that ever-widening mouth was about to bite into him, a series of images flashed through his mind like a movie reel in that moment of life-and-death danger, especially the scenes from the Main God Space.
Right! The Flying Thunder God! If I can't beat it, I can still run! Ed instantly grabbed a small stone. Magic power flowed through his body and into the stone as if by instinct, and a tiny mark appeared on it. Ed quickly threw the stone away, then activated his magic power.
Whoosh!
The Tyrannosaurus bit down on empty air and stared blankly at Ed, who had suddenly appeared off to the side. "It worked! So this is what using the Flying Thunder God feels like? In an instant, I'm somewhere else. As expected, the Flying Thunder God is the coolest!" Ed felt adrenaline surge through his body, and he became completely fired up.
"Still, only knowing the Flying Thunder God means I can't fight back at all. And it feels like the chakra—or rather, magic power—in my body doesn't consume too much when I activate it, but I still can't keep this up for long." Taking the chance, Ed tossed marked stones to the side and placed marks on the stones around him, blinking back and forth as he toyed with the Tyrannosaurus.
"I remember Tsunade's Monster Strength only requires concentrating chakra, right? Let's try it!" Ed thought, and immediately acted. He flashed to the side and attempted to gather magic power in his fist.
Soon, a faint glow appeared around Ed's fist. "It worked! Die!" Ed flashed in front of the Tyrannosaurus and punched its massive head. The ordinary-looking fist struck, and the wildly disproportionate clash produced a completely unexpected result.
Ed's fist hit the Tyrannosaurus's skull, and tremendous force erupted in an instant, sending both human and dinosaur flying. The enormous impact blasted the Tyrannosaurus backward until it slammed into a huge tree trunk behind it, smashing a massive crater into it before collapsing to the ground, dead or alive unknown.
Ed was also thrown backward by the explosive force. "Fuck, that hurts! My arm isn't broken, is it? I knew Tsunade's Monster Strength wouldn't be that simple." Ed activated the Flying Thunder God, landed in an open clearing, and clutched his arm as he wailed.
After a while, Ed looked at his entire swollen, reddened arm and felt utterly exhausted. "Good thing that Main God increased my talent. Otherwise, I probably couldn't even use this half-baked Monster Strength."
Ed looked up at the Tyrannosaurus lying over there. It had been the predator just moments ago, but now it showed no signs of life. "At least the immediate danger is over." Ed sat down and began inspecting his body.
Ed spotted a small river nearby and hurried over. Looking down at his reflection, he discovered that he looked about eleven or twelve years old. His appearance was still as handsome as before, while the entire right arm he had used to punch was swollen and red, looking rather alarming.
Ed rubbed his arm. "It hurts so much, but it doesn't feel broken. Good, good. But what am I supposed to do next? And where the hell am I?!"
Ed was on the verge of collapse. As a former shut-in, even surviving in this forest was a problem. Suddenly, a voice rang out. "This is the forest near Magnolia. Kid, who are you? Why are you alone in the forest?"
Ed turned and saw a short elderly man with white hair and a bald crown speaking to him. "That appearance... could you be Mr. Makarov, the guild master of Fairy Tail?" Ed was slightly excited. At last, he would no longer need to worry about survival.
According to the story, Guild Master Makarov was a thoroughly good person. He definitely would not leave a child to live alone in the forest, especially a wizard who had awakened magic.
After thinking quickly, Ed replied, "I came from a very distant place. After awakening magic, I wanted to join Fairy Tail, so I ran away. I just got lost in this forest... haha." By the end, Ed looked a little embarrassed.
"Alone? You came from a distant place—where is your family? Were they willing to let you run off by yourself?" Makarov asked suspiciously.
Ed fell silent for a moment. Thinking of the parents he might never see again, he said heavily, "They... aren't in this world."
Makarov considered it, then said, "Then come with me. You wanted to join Fairy Tail anyway. This will become your new home, and everyone in the guild will become your new family."
"My name is Ed." Ed nodded, and Makarov smiled as well. "Then let's get going. It'll still take a full day to travel from here back to the guild."
"Yeah!"
