On the coast of Wolf Island, the smoke-shrouded Land of Beginnings welcomed its first visitors.
"Hahaha! We got here first, Freed!" Bickslow stuck out his tongue and laughed. "Looks like those guys will have to keep struggling inside your Magic Array barrier for a while! Man, this feels great!"
"All right, Bickslow. Our priority now should be deciding which route to take next," Freed said calmly. "If we choose poorly, we could be in serious trouble."
"Uh, good point. We really do need to think this through. If we run into any of those three, we'll be in big trouble." Remembering the three S-Class Mages guarding the Excitement Routes, even the bold Bickslow shuddered. "We hardly ever get here first. It'd be a waste of our head start if we didn't choose carefully. Which route do you think we should take, Freed? They all look pretty much the same..."
Freed carefully examined the routes before them. Just as Bickslow had said, judging by appearances alone, they really did all look alike. Every route looked utterly ordinary from the outside, making it difficult to tell which was safer and which was more dangerous.
At this point, not only Bickslow but even Freed was at a loss. Which route should we choose? As he pondered that question, Bickslow suddenly cried out beside him—
"Ah! Freed, look! Look at that route—"
"What is it, Bicks—" Before he could finish, Freed froze too. He stared blankly at one particular route, his eyes filled with disbelief. Right before them, a soft blue glow of magic had suddenly appeared in front of one of the eight routes—
