Menma formed Team 7 with Sakura and Sasuke, proved his strength, and began confronting the political dangers of their mission in the Land of Waves. The arc ended with Sakura defeating Haku in the arena, though Haku questioned how she had lost.

Menma helped contain Utakata’s Six-Tails and was drawn through a failed summoning into a ruined world inhabited by yokai. He forged an alliance with them against the Ōtsutsuki Clan, began close-combat training, and received a new summoning scroll from Gamakichi.

• Sasuke lost to Suigetsu after Suigetsu carried him beyond the arena boundary, and Zabuza later matched Menma against Utakata.
• Utakata’s Six-Tails transformation overwhelmed the fighters until Menma entered its mental world, persuaded Saiken to remain with Utakata, and gained some of its Chakra.
• Menma returned to Konoha, told Kushina about the Six-Tails’ Chakra, and began studying sealing arts while Kakashi assigned Team 7 an A-Rank mission.
• Jiraiya accepted Menma as his disciple and challenged him to learn the Summoning Technique, but Menma vanished into a desolate dimension after signing the Mount Myōboku contract.
• Menma met the yokai of the shattered world, explained the Ōtsutsuki threat, and persuaded the Great Tengu to form an alliance with humanity.
• Unable to return home, Menma summoned Gamakichi to deliver monster blood and request a summoning scroll, then trained with the Great Tengu in close combat.
• After three days of sparring, Menma summoned Gamakichi, who arrived carrying the new summoning scroll.
