Seven days passed in the blink of an eye, and Ke Chen drove himself to the Hellfire Club.
The Hellfire Club's headquarters had originally been an abandoned church.
But after so many years of development, that abandoned church had become the Hellfire Club's estate.
It was only a few blocks away from the future Avengers headquarters...
It stood on Fifth Avenue on the eastern side of Manhattan. Every inch of land here was worth a fortune, and the Hellfire Club's presence here showed just how powerful it was.
By nightfall, the place was packed with luxury cars.
In truth, such scenes were common everywhere. It looked like a gathering of the wealthy, except those socialites hoping to rise to the top in one leap could not squeeze their way in.
Hellfire Club gatherings focused more on communication among members.
If anyone had a collaboration or an idea, they could discuss it properly.
The Hellfire Club of the past had been ambitious, dreaming of establishing a world for Mutants.
But under the X-Men's blows, all of that had vanished into thin air.
Even many of the Hellfire Club's successive leaders were no longer Mutants, so naturally, there was no talk of creating a world for Mutants.
The gatherings now were much simpler.
After Ke Chen got out of the car, a waiter immediately greeted him.
"May I see your invitation?"
The waiter asked Ke Chen respectfully.
Ke Chen took out his invitation. The waiter looked it over, then promptly stepped aside. "Distinguished guests must wear masks when entering the club."
"We have to wear masks too?"
Ke Chen asked.
"Many members do not wish to reveal their true identities. Please understand."
The waiter spoke deferentially. Hearing that, Ke Chen casually picked out a mask.
A bat mask.
Though he thought it was useless—anyone who knew him would still recognize him—it was meant to keep strangers out.
It was a rule. Once they left the Hellfire Club, they were not to discuss these matters.
Before entering, Ke Chen had wondered whether anything exciting might happen.
But after he came in, he was greatly disappointed.
The members sat together drinking. Most were men, and even the women were old and faded.
Without a certain level of power and status, one simply could not enter this place.
People like Tony Stark were considered young here.
After all, Tony was already close to thirty.
It seemed that even if wealthy people wanted to have fun, they would not do so at an occasion like this. How embarrassing would that be?
Ke Chen sighed inwardly. Those movies were all lies. In reality, the socialites who wanted to turn into phoenixes could not even get through the doors of such high-end gatherings.
Unless the host personally invited them.
Of course, that did not mean there were no youthful, beautiful figures here. It was just that they were all maids.
Naturally, the wealthy had no interest in these maids. At most, they would look at them a couple of times as pleasant scenery.
If you asked them how they could live so long with a head full of white hair, they would surely tell you the secret: looking at beautiful women every day.
Beautiful things could brighten the spirit...
"Mr. Ke Chen."
Just then, a maid dressed as a bunny girl approached Ke Chen.
She had a curvy figure, blonde hair, and distinctive green eyes.
No wonder those horny old men liked coming to parties.
"That's me."
Ke Chen adjusted his suit. Peggy Carter had specially picked it out for him. Though it looked somewhat like an old-fashioned gentleman's outfit, Ke Chen liked Peggy Carter's taste.
"The master is waiting for you inside."
The bunny girl maid said.
Ke Chen narrowed his eyes. It seemed this mysterious person wanted to see him.
That was why they had borrowed Tony Stark's name.
Tony clearly had not come to such a boring gathering, because there was nothing here that interested him.
"Lead the way."
Ke Chen considered it for a moment before speaking.
He had nothing to fear. His strength was now incomparably formidable; even if he faced Odin, he would not panic.
And he had already met the Ancient One, the strongest sorcerer on Earth. What was there left to fear?
After all, he had already maxed out his survival skills...
The bunny girl maid shot him a seductive glance, then turned around and swayed forward.
She walked as though she were on a runway, her hips swaying with every step, brimming with allure.
Ke Chen admired the sight for a moment but made no move.
The bunny girl maid was somewhat disappointed. She wanted to hook a wealthy man, but these rich people clearly looked down on maids like her.
The gap in status was too great. They were unwilling to waste even one night on her.
She led Ke Chen deeper into the club.
Since the place had originally been converted from a church, it covered a vast area. She led Ke Chen all the way to the innermost part of the club.
When she opened the door, there was another passage below.
A spiral staircase in the passage led underground.
"The master is down there. Servants like us are not allowed inside."
The bunny girl maid said apologetically to Ke Chen.
Seeing that she was telling the truth, Ke Chen nodded.
Still, he inwardly mocked, Is your master a vampire or something? Why make this place so creepy?
Yet he boldly walked down anyway.
The bunny girl maid did not close the door. Instead, she waited in the passage.
Torches hung beside the spiral staircase, while paintings of eerie, dark castles covered the walls.
When he reached the underground level, Ke Chen immediately saw a red sofa and a table.
Two glasses of wine as red as blood sat on the table, while a languid woman reclined on the red sofa.
Ke Chen had thought the bunny girl maid's master would be a man. He had not expected a woman.
It made sense, though. The Black King was already dead, while the identity of the White King was uncertain.
As for the woman before him, she wore a black hooded top and black leather pants. Her smooth long hair was black as well, revealing her identity.
The Black Queen!
Even her lips were black, like deadly poison.
Ke Chen met her gaze. The Black Queen's eyes were filled with curiosity and seduction.
"Selene?"
Ke Chen walked over and sat openly across from her.
Ke Chen's boldness made the Black Queen even more interested.
"Yes. May I call you Ke Chen?"
Americans had trouble pronouncing Chinese names, so they could only say the full name.
Others would take English names to fit in, but Ke Chen did not like doing that.
Ke Chen nodded and looked at the Black Queen.
No wonder Selene's name had seemed familiar to him back then. It turned out that it was the Black Queen's name.
He had simply failed to remember it at the time.
Selene had lived for at least several thousand years, and she was even older than Apocalypse.
At first, people believed she was merely a powerful witch, but in truth, she was a Mutant with an extraordinarily long lifespan.
She might even have been the true earliest Mutant.
After all, there had already been many Mutants in Apocalypse's era, but Selene's time had been different.
Why had she sought him out?
