The polar kayaks slowly moved forward under the expedition members' control.
The kayaks creaked as they crushed over the floating ice.
Lin Qiyan desperately wanted to reach out and touch the ice floes, but for Antarctica's ecosystem, he restrained himself and did not touch them.
He stared at the ice in the sea. "This ice is so blue. It's completely different from what we usually see."
Lu Ao said behind him, "This ice may have been compressed for tens of thousands of years. Of course it's different from flash-frozen ice."
Lin Qiyan clicked his tongue. "Isn't tens of thousands of years a bit exaggerated?"
The foreign expedition member paddling the kayak behind them overheard their conversation and said earnestly in somewhat clumsy Chinese, "Yes. Some of it has been frozen for many, many years. Only now that the weather has warmed has it slowly broken away from the enormous icebergs it originally belonged to and drifted into the sea."
He spoke slowly. Lin Qiyan listened carefully, then asked after he had finished, "Is the ice loss serious?"
"Very serious." The expedition member looked into the distance. "Before, a vast area here was all ice sheet. Now the ice has vanished, and you can directly see the exposed rocks."
As he spoke, his expression was filled with endless melancholy.
A blizzard had just passed through, but the snowfall had not actually been very heavy.
The fresh snow had not piled up deeply, and some rocks could be seen directly.
Lu Ao and Lin Qiyan looked up together.
They could not imagine what this vast region would look like entirely blanketed in snow.
The others in the kayaks also heard their conversation.
Compared with the Antarctic continent covered in ice and snow, most people felt somewhat disappointed at the sight of exposed
