His snow-white coloring made him look delicate. Ye Si studied Little Dragon closely and found that even his eyelashes were white—long, curled, and rising and falling faintly with each breath.
"He's adorable." Ye Si looked up and smiled at them. "Leave him with me for now. I'll take good care of him."
Lu Ao immediately tensed. "We're coming with you!"
Meeting Ye Si's gaze, Lu Ao explained, "Sorry, it's nothing against you. He's only just hatched, and we want to stay by his side."
Ye Si nodded in understanding. "Of course. Come in."
Lu Ao and Song Zhou followed her inside.
Only then did Lu Ao realize the courtyard was far larger than it had looked from outside. Ye Si wasn't alone, either. Several female caretakers in dark teal dresses and white aprons moved about the courtyard.
Every so often, they heard a commotion from the rooms nearby.
Looking more closely, Lu Ao could make out little ones of all kinds inside.
The caretakers were gentle, speaking in soft voices with a warmth that reminded him of a mother's. Without realizing it, Lu Ao relaxed.
Ye Si led them into a clean room and placed Little Dragon in a wooden crib at its center. Turning to Lu Ao and Song Zhou, she said, "I need to check him first."
Lu Ao nodded, his eyes fixed on her movements.
A pale green glow rose from Ye Si's slender, fair hand and enveloped Little Dragon.
Little Dragon stirred uneasily, but after Ye Si stroked him, he slept even more soundly.
Lu Ao could even hear his tiny snores.
After a while, Ye Si said, "He's doing very well. Apart from being a little malnourished, there's nothing wrong with him."
Lu Ao let out a breath. "What do we do next?"
"I'd suggest
