It was not surprising that Dumbledore had an organization under his command to oppose the Death Eaters, but it was strange that this organization had fought such a costly war against them.

Logically speaking, Dumbledore's force existed for different reasons than the Death Eaters. Their goal was not to overthrow the Ministry of Magic, so there was no need for them to seize territory or build a reputation.

They only needed to kill Voldemort. Even the fate of the Death Eaters themselves was not all that important.

The first time this force officially appeared before the Death Eaters should have been Voldemort's final day. Otherwise, once their strength had been exposed, killing Voldemort would only become more difficult if he was on guard.

And Manus happened to know one thing: Voldemort had made Horcruxes—more than one. Under normal circumstances, he could not be killed.

So the true heart of this war was obvious. Dumbledore had believed the time was ripe and launched an attack on Voldemort, hoping to kill him in one stroke. Yet because Voldemort had Horcruxes, the attempt had ultimately failed.

No, perhaps they had not even managed to confirm that Voldemort possessed Horcruxes. Voldemort had never been driven into a true dead end at all.

Manus slightly revised his guess. If Voldemort had truly been near death and then resurrected through a Horcrux, even with preparations in place, it could not have been completed immediately.

After all, Horcruxes were still too crudely made. If they had been phylacteries, they should have included resurrection measures, rather than merely ensuring immortality and requiring further preparations for revival.

If Voldemort had truly died once, the commotion outside would definitely have been large enough to affect Hogwarts.
