Black Family Gossip

As Aivina slid the mutton pies and sausages into the oven, she told Manus about what was happening outside... or rather, the gossip:

"Andromeda, that girl who only graduated from Hogwarts last year, eloped with and married a Muggle-born wizard. Cygnus was furious and struck Andromeda off the family tree outright!"

"Oh? He disowned her just like that?"

Manus paused.

While Muggles running away together was relatively uncommon, wizards eloping and getting married was not actually all that rare. Usually, the families would stop at tacitly accepting it and would not make things too ugly.

After all, wizards who could graduate normally from Hogwarts generally had the ability to live independently.

With magic, fencing off a patch of land was enough to make it a home. Even if they could not build a house, they could stack wood and stone into the shape of one. They could grow food and conjure water. At worst, life would be a little tight, but they would certainly survive.

As long as their parents strongly disapproved of their marriage, they could simply move out and live on their own, sparing both sides the sight of each other.

And even if the parents were stubborn, once the people they could not stand were no longer in front of them, they would still have some affection for the child they had raised for so many years. Most would just turn a blind eye and let it go.

That was the situation with the Weasleys, though their elopement was mainly because the woman's side—the Prewett Family—could not accept it.

Arthur Weasley was the son of Septimus Weasley, a Pure-blood traitor, and an equally unconventional Black. The chances of his family having any opinion on their children's marriages were practically negligible.
