On Sunday morning, Manus blinked at the letter before him, realizing for the first time that there might be a problem with his comprehension.
Flitwick had told him to write an application requesting exemption from coursework on the grounds that he was working for the school's honor and faced excessive time pressure...
So that was an option?
The assignments did help Manus review old material and gain new insights, but even without them, he would do that in his head anyway. Compared to that, they really did consume a great deal of his unnecessary time and energy.
But Manus had never considered using his excellent grades as an excuse to skip homework. After all, this was a world with fairy-tale leanings.
In a world like this, laziness was undoubtedly not a trait people praised, and demanding special treatment because of good grades was even more arrogant.
So here was the question: a professor who was also a Head of House had taught him to do this, and strictly speaking, Flitwick really did want him to use the extra time to contribute to the honor of Ravenclaw and Hogwarts...
That should be allowed, right?
Of course, it did not come without a price.
If he filed the application, then entered the competitions only to utterly fail at everything and come away empty-handed, the application itself would not be particularly binding. No one could say that he had to place a certain rank or face some consequence if he failed to do so.
But the Board of Governors would most likely give him trouble then.
The competitions related to the school's honor were basically not something first- through fifth-year students could enter. In other words, he would not have graduated by the time the competition results came out.
