Though he had expected it, Slytherin's Beater, Selwyn, still felt some regret when he saw that the Bludger had achieved nothing.
At the same time, he wore an utterly fake apologetic smile and waved his bat at Potter.
Potter gave him a cold look but did not respond. Since no one could calculate the complicated outcomes that might result from a bat colliding with a Bludger, it was not a foul even if a Beater's hit Bludger struck an opposing player.
Of course, as the sport had developed, using Bludgers to interfere with or even hit opposing players had itself become part of a Beater's duty.
There was no point arguing with the other side. Securing the Golden Snitch early was the only truly effective form of retaliation.
Even so, if Potter could simply swallow this insult, he would not be Potter. His gaze suddenly fixed on something, and then he drove his Broomstick into a sharp dive—
Slytherin's Seeker, Nott, froze for a moment. Though he had not seen the Golden Snitch, he hurriedly turned his Broomstick and chased after him.
At a time like this, Potter's move could very well have been a bluff, but they could not afford to gamble on it. If Potter really caught the Golden Snitch, the match would end immediately.
Just then, a streak of golden light flashed through the corner of Potter's eye—
The real Golden Snitch!
Potter's eyelid twitched, but the determination in his eyes did not change in the slightest. He kept his gaze locked on that patch of air and even tilted his Broomstick slightly, as if the Golden Snitch ahead of him were fleeing.
Nott did not suspect a thing and pursued him on his Broomstick, until Potter suddenly made another near-vertical dive—
"Madman!"
Nott gritted his teeth
