"Alright, everyone, look at me first—"
Hicks clapped her hands, and everyone turned to look at her.
"This class will count as a little test to see how well you've learned Defense Against the Dark Arts so far—not just this year's material. Your task is to set off from here, go clockwise around the classroom's four corners, and return here."
Go around the classroom's four corners?
Everyone looked again at the pool in the classroom. Between the four exposed corners was nothing but water, with no land connecting them. Even between the two corners along the shorter side, they would have to cross at least six meters of water.
In other words, unless they found a way to walk directly along the walls, they would have to figure out how to cross the water.
They were already third-year wizards. Their first reaction to such a requirement was not, "How is that possible?" but rather, "How can I do it?"
"Professor Hicks, can we go around the classroom any way we want?"
"Of course."
Hicks nodded.
"As long as your feet step on the ground at all four corners in order. But I should remind you that this pool is very deep, and there are some Magical Creatures I brought in it. You'd better watch your safety when you pass through."
The pool was very deep?
With spells like the Undetectable Extension Charm around, no one believed that, just because this was the first floor, the pool's depth could not exceed the thickness of the floor.
Still, everyone wanted to see just how deep it was, so they would have some idea of what to expect when crossing it.
Someone considered Transfiguring a rope, tying a heavy object to it, and throwing it into the water to measure the depth.
