This Spinning and Weaving Machine was exquisitely designed, making extensive use of metal components, levers, connecting rods, and gears. Its power source was a Mana Engine.
Under the watchful eyes of Viscount Rost, the Wild Mage, and the others, the Apprentice somewhat nervously hurried to put all the materials in place. With the press of a button, magic power began flowing through the Spinning and Weaving Machine. Fine threads slowly emerged from its various ports and, after a light dance, seamlessly transformed into cloth.
Though it did not look artistic in the slightest, and the quality did not seem especially high, Viscount Rost's breathing grew heavy. He felt as though an era was rushing straight toward him!
Around three thousand years ago, cotton appeared in this world. At the time, people called it "grass that grew wool." Within only a few years, cotton had become the main material used to make clothing, and textile techniques had emerged alongside it.
The Dawn Kingdom grew cotton and transported raw cotton to the Graycastle Empire. Farmers of the Graycastle Empire used the raw cotton shipped from the Dawn Kingdom, along with cotton they grew themselves, to produce cotton textiles. Some of those textiles were then sold back north... This trade had continued for nearly a thousand years, creating an immensely prosperous trade route that many called the "Cotton Road."
Before the rise of Magitech Devices in Rost Territory, the cotton trade accounted for roughly a quarter of the trade between the two great human nations. It could be said that nearly everyone, men and women, young and old, wore cotton clothes...
But wearing cotton clothes did not mean cotton clothing was abundant. In truth, most people wore new clothes for three years, old clothes for three more, then patched them for another three.
