This was bad! They had fallen into a trap!
The instant he saw flames burst from the cannon barrels, Gary's heart began pounding wildly.
There was no time to think about how those damned Imperial Army soldiers had managed to transport heavy artillery onto those steep limestone peaks. He immediately darted toward the nearest cover.
Almost the moment he dove behind cover, a barrage of cannon fire and the cracking of rock erupted across the battlefield.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!"
Terrifying explosions rang out across the battlefield alongside the wails of soldiers. At the same time, dense rain began pouring down from the overcast sky.
Raindrops the size of beans battered the fractured rocks below, crackling loudly as they extinguished the smoke that had just risen from the ground, only to be shattered again by the shells that followed.
The roar of artillery mingled endlessly with thunder. By the time the bombardment gradually subsided, more than half of the Beastfolk troops of the 112th Division—who had originally gathered into groups, tightened their defenses, and planned to wipe out the enemy's bait force—had already been taken out in the artillery ambush.

"Fire!"
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Orange-yellow bullets tore through the rain curtain and shot toward the members of the 112th Division preparing to counterattack. Relying on the large amount of grenades and ammunition placed across the battlefield beforehand, this bait force—whose accuracy was poor and whose combat strength was far below that of the Orc Legion—somehow managed to achieve fire suppression.
