Ch. 41Dream's Continuation

Sian called on the souls of those lost in the disaster to help the high priestess purify the corruption, while sharing a heartfelt farewell with his parents. Their combined anima strengthened the purification and brought new life to the ruined land; as Vel'th died, he remembered his childhood dream and longed to return home.

  • The high priestess, Aldo, Glen Runetotem, Serag Stonehoof, and the other departed souls gathered to support Sian, and Tally welcomed her master home.
  • Sian asked his parents to let him continue, and Carl told him not to lose his way and to come home early.
  • Sian and the high priestess began the ritual as the departed souls poured anima into the barrier, bringing a white flower to life among the ruins.
  • Cairne's group arrived, Bashana urged Hamuul to let her help, and Tamara Bloodhoof joined the others as their light flowed into the purification.
  • The amplified Purification filled the sky, and Vel'th remembered his mother's kindness and asked to go home before darkness took him.

Ch. 42Broker Field Report

Devos remembered how a Broker's field report and a fragment of her own memory exposed secrets tied to The Maw, while her investigation of Bastion revealed growing unease among the Kyrian. She resolved to search Elysian Hold's archives for records about The Maw after finishing her current duty.

  • Devos recalled that she had once been a Forsworn and discovered through the Memory Glass that she had been a little girl's mother.
  • Ve'nari helped Devos connect the Memory Glass's residual energy to The Maw and stopped her from leaping into the River of Souls.
  • Ve'nari said she was seeking allies and left Devos a crystal communication device.
  • Devos observed that Bastion had grown harsh and indifferent, and that some Kyrian had begun doubting their path.
  • Devos decided to investigate Elysian Hold's archives for secrets about The Maw, but returned her attention to the work before her.

Ch. 43The Mists of Tirna Scithe

Devos agreed to trust Lady Moonberry and the souls whose fates had been diverted, while Moonberry gave her a mysterious seed and invited her to Ardenweald. They decided to travel back together and share their stories, leaving the mist over Tirna Scithe only partly dispersed.

  • Devos told Lady Moonberry she would witness the souls’ journey, placing more faith in their nobility than in destiny alone.
  • Moonberry gave Devos a glowing seed from the Grove of Awakening, then playfully let the wind carry it away, insisting it would find the right person.
  • Moonberry invited Devos to visit the grove and join a performance about the hero who saved Ardenweald and the Shadowlands.
  • Moonberry said it was too soon to leave for good because the mists around Tirna Scithe had only partly cleared.
  • Devos realized she and Moonberry might face the same predicament and agreed to share her stories on the journey back.

Ch. 44Night Elves

The Tauren continued battling the Nightmare tide until life-giving rain weakened the monsters and strengthened the defenders. Night Elf Druids and Sentinels arrived as reinforcements, and Shandris Feathermoon offered their forces to Cairne Bloodhoof.

  • Cairne led the exhausted Tauren in a determined charge against the Nightmare creatures.
  • Sian fought beside his mother, Carl, and declared that he wanted to push forward and seal the rifts.
  • A fragrant rain fell, restoring the Tauren while causing the Nightmare creatures to writhe in pain.
  • Carl sensed approaching allies as Druids summoned giant bears and Night Elf fighters attacked the Nightmare forces.
  • Shandris Feathermoon introduced herself to Cairne Bloodhoof as Ranger General and offered the Sentinels' help.

Ch. 45What Kind of Person to Become

After the war, Sian struggled with resentment that the Night Elves had arrived too late to save his mother. Hamuul helped him accept his conflicted feelings, and Sian chose to remain grateful for the help they had given.

  • Sian sat outside the Bloodhoof tent, remembering the happy meadow and grieving the losses of the war.
  • Hamuul invited Sian to join the banquet and explained that he was bringing Cairne an old jar of wine.
  • Sian confessed to Hamuul that he wished the Night Elves had arrived earlier and might have saved his mother.
  • Hamuul reassured Sian that mixed feelings did not make him shameful and reminded him that he could choose what kind of person to become.
  • Sian thanked Hamuul, then went with him to deliver the wine to Cairne and join the banquet.

Ch. 46Banquet

Sian attended a banquet with Hamuul and met Cairne Bloodhoof, Archdruid Staghelm, and Shandris Feathermoon. His awkward arrival eased the gathering’s solemn mood, and the chapter ended with Cairne and Staghelm expressing mutual respect for one another’s wisdom.

  • Hamuul led the nervous Sian into the banquet tent, where he noticed Archdruid Staghelm and Shandris Feathermoon among the guests.
  • Hamuul guided Sian to the table, and Cairne Bloodhoof invited him to sit beside him.
  • Sian nearly toppled while sitting, prompting kind laughter from the Tauren and Night Elf guests.
  • Staghelm asked whether Sian was Cairne’s son, and Cairne explained that he was his nephew, temporarily in his care.
  • Staghelm said respect should come from admirable qualities rather than age, and Cairne agreed that people could learn from one another with humility and courage.

Ch. 47Moon and the Great White Stag

Cairne recalled persuading Carl and Tally to stay in Bloodhoof Village rather than flee with their child, Sian. At a meeting with Fandral Staghelm and Shandris Feathermoon, Sian's knowledge of an ancient Tauren tale prompted Fandral to begin explaining the Night Elves' ties to the Nightmare.

  • Cairne found Carl and Tally preparing to leave for the Stonetalon Mountains because they feared for their child’s safety.
  • Cairne urged the couple to trust him and Bloodhoof Village, and Carl and Tally abandoned their plan to leave.
  • Fandral apologized for the Night Elves’ late arrival and said the disaster was connected to their people’s history.
  • Sian interrupted Fandral by recounting the tale of Mu’sha and the Great White Stag, and said he had learned it from the high priestess.
  • Cairne said the Tauren had lost most of their Druidic traditions, and Hamuul agreed to examine their records.
  • Fandral began to explain the origins of the Druids, the Emerald Dream, the Satyrs, and the Nightmare.

Ch. 48The Stele of Time

Fandral recounted the War of the Ancients and the Nightmare’s return as the King of the Nightmare, including the losses suffered by Belissa Starbreeze and the Night Elves. He apologized to Cairne on behalf of the Night Elves and presented a message from Tyrande Whisperwind, which Cairne accepted without opening.

  • Fandral told Sian about the War of the Ancients, Huln Highmountain’s heroism, and the Great Sundering.
  • Fandral revealed that Xavius had been reborn as the King of the Nightmare and launched a war from within the Emerald Dream.
  • Fandral described the Night Elves’ costly struggle against the Nightmare and the losses Belissa Starbreeze suffered, including Avel and Lylara Firefang.
  • Fandral apologized to Cairne on behalf of the Cenarion Circle, the Priests of the Moon, and the Night Elves, and offered to make amends.
  • Shandris gave Fandral a scroll containing Tyrande Whisperwind’s message and apology, and Fandral passed it to Cairne, who accepted it without opening it.

Ch. 49Glory

Cairne refused the Night Elves’ apology and compensation, explaining that they had no reason to apologize for the demons’ actions and that the Tauren would keep their pride. Moved by Cairne’s words and Sian’s happiness, Fandral offered to teach Sian druidic ways, but Sian asked him for something else.

  • Sian struggled with mixed feelings as Cairne accepted the Night Elves’ scroll without opening it.
  • Cairne returned the scroll and said the Tauren could not accept an apology because the Night Elves had done nothing wrong.
  • Fandral and the Night Elves suspected Cairne was seeking greater benefits, but Cairne explained that he saw them as friends who had come to help.
  • Cairne spoke of Tauren pride and self-reliance, and Fandral felt ashamed of his suspicions and remembered what he had lost sight of.
  • Fandral asked Sian whether he was suffering, and Sian replied that everyone lived hard lives but was happy.
  • Fandral offered to teach Sian the ways of the Druids, and Sian introduced himself before asking for something else.

Ch. 50A Winter Veil Morning

After the feast, Sian woke in Baine’s tent and learned that Hamuul had carried him there while drunk. As the Winter Veil festival began, Hamuul urged Fandral to join the celebrations, and Fandral asked whether Hamuul had considered Sian’s proposal.

  • The guests drank and feasted late into the night, while Sian filled himself with roasted meat and fell asleep.
  • Sian woke when Baine put fingers in his nostrils and discovered he was in Baine’s bed.
  • Baine explained that Hamuul had carried Sian into the tent and later collapsed on him, and that Sian had nearly kicked Baine’s ribs during the night.
  • Baine urged Sian to hurry because the Winter Veil festival was about to begin, and Sian grew excited but wondered whether recent frightening events would affect it.
  • Hamuul ended his research session with Fandral and pushed him to join the festival, and Fandral asked whether Hamuul had considered Sian’s proposal.
