Tashigi's First Opponent
At this moment, Cocoyasi Village's villagers had completely cast off their fear and dread of the fish-men. They threw down the muskets in their hands. The elderly, weak, sick, and disabled began reloading them, while the able-bodied young men charged forward with pitchforks.
This was the method Leo had taught them.
Although Leo's ship also had plenty of swords, to be honest, those were necessities for boarding battles at sea.
Pirate swords were long and sharp. Inside a cabin, one had to consider the risk of cutting oneself or one's companions. In a boarding battle, one might have to bite down on a sword while using both hands to climb a rope and swing onto the enemy ship.
No matter what, they could not be made too thick, too large, or too long.
It was an unavoidable tradeoff at sea, but on land, a naval saber might not even be as useful as a pitchfork.
That was simply reality. There was a reason spears had replaced halberds in the age of cold weapons, and there was also a reason why so many armies throughout history, in every country, had used spears instead of longswords or sabers.
On the battlefield, every extra inch of reach meant extra strength.
With a pitchfork in hand, you could stab a fish-man holding a longsword before he could slash you.
Arlong's eyes turned red as he faced the humans charging toward him.
There were still seven or eight lackeys by his side. Every one of them had been shot several times, yet their powerful fish-man physiques had kept them alive. They charged forward at the front.
But Cocoyasi Village's villagers were no longer the sheep they had once been.
After two volleys, they had been reborn as hungry wolves!
