Chapter 92: Convention
After Leo finished speaking, everyone wore bewildered expressions.
Was modern politics truly too complex for people of this era?
Politics was humanity's highest art.
Though he no longer remembered who had said it.
Leo deeply agreed with it.
Modern politics was almost the greatest culmination modern people—or rather, humanity—could achieve.
The scene suddenly fell silent.
No one understood what Leo was thinking.
In truth, he had already plunged into unprecedentedly intense thought.
Everyone simply watched him quietly, as if waiting for him to quickly produce some doctrine.
He soon realized this.
He gave a light cough, stopped dwelling on those matters, and instead took charge of the entire situation.
"Do you agree that murder must be repaid with a life, and debts must be repaid?"
The Shandians and Angel Island residents exchanged looks, then all nodded, agreeing with this most basic value.
But Wyper stood up and asked loudly, "Then how do we account for the killings after both sides hurt each other in our previous wars?"
"If the Shandians had conquered the Sky Island people, then you could certainly judge them by making [whoever killed one of yours pay with their life]. But unfortunately, I am the one leading this, so my proposal is that this rule will take effect starting today."
They nodded hesitantly.
No one had ever discussed policies concerning them in such an equal and democratic tone before, leaving them at a loss.
Yet every word Leo said made sense, leaving them unable to refute him. They agreed with him because what he said was perfectly reasonable.
Besides, what was the point of continuing to slaughter one another?
Before absolute strength and an outside force, the infighting between their tribes seemed utterly ridiculous.
If they kept fighting, it would only become a joke.
