Chapter 011: The Navy Has Arrived
People say that women in love are blind.
This description could not be more fitting for the current Empress.
Perhaps the Celestial Dragons truly were her Achilles' heel; with a single light touch, she was utterly lost.
When Leo said he wanted to overthrow the Celestial Dragons, overthrow their ruling system, and overthrow the entire World Government, his impact was far greater than Luffy's punch that sent a Celestial Dragon flying—especially for the Empress, who was hard on the outside but soft on the inside, a former slave with the heart to defy the Celestial Dragons but not the courage.
Moreover, Leo was no Luffy. He was as weak as a newborn, unable to defeat even an ordinary Celestial Dragon guard, let alone vent his anger by beating one. Escaping from the Celestial Dragons' clutches was already a stroke of luck, and now wanting to improve his strength was only natural.
Although he had once described the structure of this world and analyzed its top-tier combat power, that didn't stop him from wanting to become a high-level fighter himself.
Though he was now twenty-six, roughly the same age as the Empress, and even a bit older than Hancock, his strength was truly that of an ant at the very bottom of the pirate world. Even that little thief cat Nami was probably stronger than him.
This wasn't his fault. His body was genuinely that of an ordinary urban Easterner from his previous life, with no training whatsoever. After arriving in the pirate world, he had even become twenty years younger. As a six-year-old in the Celestial Dragons' care, he had eaten well and drunk well, suffering little hardship, but his strength simply refused to grow.
Even ordinary people could easily surpass his physique.
He had tried Prisoner Training in his own room, but it had no effect. No matter how he trained, his constitution remained worse than that of untrained commoners.
Clearly, humans in the One Piece World were inherently more powerful in terms of physique than those in his previous technological society.
It was a fundamental difference between the two.
After being diagnosed by the female doctor Belladonna, whose flower language was "deadly nightshade," he could only helplessly accept this conclusion.
If that was the case, he didn't know whether he could train in Haki or eat a Devil Fruit—that was what troubled him most.
So, he decided to start by training in Haki first.
Gloriosa sat on a tree trunk, while the Empress, instead of handling state affairs, sat nearby with her two sisters, watching Gloriosa teach Leo as if it were a show.
There were very few onlookers here. Tall walls kept out wild beasts and blocked the Amazon warrior women from coming out, so only the few of them were present. Gloriosa's teaching was also gentler than that of the instructors in the Amazon Lily Kingdom.
As Gloriosa slowly explained, Leo gained a more intuitive understanding of the Amazon Lily Kingdom's structure.
Even within the Amazon Lily Kingdom, not everyone could learn Haki. First, they would build a foundation from childhood, identifying who was more suited to which type of Haki. From Armament to Observation, they would learn different Haki from a young age. Those with slender builds were better suited for Observation—for example, Sandersonia's Observation Haki was stronger—while those with sturdy builds were better for Armament—for instance, Marigold's Armament Haki was more powerful.
After mastering their first Haki, they would then continue to learn the other type they lacked.
Once they had learned both types of Haki and could skillfully apply them to their bows, they could become Guardian Warriors.
After serving as Guardian Warriors for a few years, when the next batch matured, the Empress would take them aboard the ship to go out to sea and raid. This way, the Amazon warrior women would accumulate and grow stronger generation after generation.
Every Amazon warrior woman who boarded the ship knew Haki. Combined with the Amazon's unique Snake Bows, they shot fast and far, with immense power comparable to cannon fire. Not even pirate crews, let alone warships, could necessarily take them down. It would likely take at least one Navy Admiral, supported by several Vice Admirals, to stop the Kuja Pirates.
This was undoubtedly a force of considerable weight.
And Haki was the sole reason they could overcome their numerical disadvantage.
So, no matter what, he had to master Haki.
It was one of only two paths for him to survive in this world.
Gloriosa was a veteran powerhouse. It was she who had brought the Empress and her two sisters back to Nine Snake Island from Shakky's place on Sabaody Archipelago. The Empress sisters had probably learned their Haki from her as well.
Like Rayleigh, she naturally had some tricks for using Haki.
With Leo's intelligence, he understood everything she said after hearing it once. But understanding was one thing; Haki was a mysterious, profound bodily power, as fantastical as inner energy, internal techniques, or true essence.
Rayleigh had only one method for training Luffy: close your eyes and train like hell.
He could grasp this kind of mystical approach. It was like when he used to play PUBG—when his feel for the game was good, getting ten kills in a round was easy, even at the high rank of 5000 points. But when his feel was off, he'd end up with nothing but a zero.
Professional players trained year after year and practiced constantly just to maintain that feel and keep it until they retired.
If "feel" was equivalent to Haki, then this was easy to understand.
Understanding was one thing; actually achieving that feel was another. Maintaining that feel and using it freely was yet another.
In short, although he understood the basics, the road ahead was long. After a full ten days of resting his body and eating plenty of Sea King meat pies, he still hadn't made any progress.
He knew in his heart that strong people excelled at Armament Haki, so as someone with a weak build, he had to start with Observation Haki. Observation Haki, however, was a Haki that heavily tested talent. The strong, like Katakuri, could foresee a few seconds into the future, hear the thoughts of Sea Kings, and converse with Zunesha, but the weak couldn't even get through the door.
Observation Haki was even more dependent on talent and even more mysterious than Armament Haki.
For a moment, he couldn't help feeling a bit discouraged, but his relationship with the Amazon warrior women in the city grew more harmonious by the day.
After finishing his training each day, he would go to Ren's tavern to eat and drink, telling them adapted stories from One Thousand and One Nights.
Naturally, the Amazon girls grew fonder and fonder of this "rare beast" whose stories never ended.
On the eleventh day, however, a piece of news made him stop his training and gathered all the Amazon warrior women together.
Because, unsurprisingly, At the main gate of Amazon Lily Island, A warship was anchored there, flaunting its power.
The Navy had finally arrived!
