"Heh heh heh, a guest has arrived. The moment you landed, I heard a tremendous sound. I figured a guest must have come."
As Rogge had just stepped inside, he heard a voice. He saw an aged giant with snow-white hair and an extremely long beard that extended even farther than his height, cascading down like a waterfall.
"King Jan of the Giant Tribe." Rogge looked at the elderly giant.
"Hellooo, cough, cough!!" The old king's health seemed poor. A group of giants sat nearby, all of them quite old. Giants could live as long as three hundred and fifty years, easily more than three times the human lifespan.
King Jan, however, was extraordinary. He was already over three hundred and ninety years old. He had lived longer than any other giant and was the longest-lived king in the Giant Tribe.
"Your health doesn't seem very good," Rogge said.
"I'm old. I'm almost four hundred," Jan replied.
"That is indeed very old—far older than humans," Rogge said.
"Cough, cough, cough. That's not quite right. Some humans never die. They're even more terrifying," Jan said between coughs.
"You mean the people living in Mary Geoise?" Rogge asked.
Jan raised his head and looked at Rogge. "It seems you know a few things. Indeed, Mary Geoise contains an extremely powerful force. Even though I'm here in Elbaf, I can hear that voice."
"A voice?" Rogge asked, puzzled.
"I was born different from other people. I can hear sounds from extremely far away, though I don't know why. As long as someone is on the island, I can speak with them, but they can't speak with me. However, I can't leave Elbaf, because the moment I do, I lose this ability," Jan
