Background

Rogge originated in another world. A month before arriving in the current world, he became a mercenary in a war-torn country after becoming a desperate fugitive. He earned a reputation through fierce fighting but was killed by a mortar shell; he awoke in the pirate world and eventually joined a small pirate crew. 1

He led Jelly and Ham in overthrowing their former captain. Rogge lured the captain onto deck, stabbed and beheaded him, then helped eliminate the remaining dissenting crewman. The trio used the dead pirates’ bounties and stolen assets to finance a more ambitious future. 1 2

After learning that the Heavenly Tribute convoy carried three Devil Fruits, Rogge orchestrated a large-scale diversion. He leaked the route to pirates, infiltrated a Marine fortress as a kitchen worker, drugged the soldiers’ food, and entered the tribute fleet during the ensuing battle. With Fish-Man assistance, he escaped Vice Admiral Doberman after stealing the three fruits. 2 3 7

Rogge, Jelly, and Ham consumed the stolen Devil Fruits together. Rogge received the Chop-Chop Fruit, whose shattering power became the foundation of his combat style. 7 8

Personality

Rogge is intensely ambitious, pragmatic, and willing to gamble his life for power. He rejects dependence on stronger crews and believes that weakness leaves a person vulnerable to exploitation or death. His response is relentless self-improvement through combat, pain, and physical training. 5 26 27 32

He is also ruthless. Rogge kills opponents, former allies, and officials without hesitation when they obstruct him, and he considers pirates responsible for accepting the possibility of death once they choose that life. 1 15 22 37

Despite this brutality, Rogge values his crew and reacts fiercely when they are threatened. Blood Hand Brian’s apparent murder of Ares provokes Rogge into personally dismantling the Bloodhand Pirates’ leadership. He also welcomes useful companions and sees the crew as a group bound by shared risk. 15 16 20

Away from combat, Rogge is impulsive, playful, and often childish. He argues over ship aesthetics, insists on keeping Billy the Husky as a pet, teases his crewmates, and is easily distracted by food or entertainment. 18 24 50
