Ch. 1Fate Weaver System

Van learned that the Barrels Pirates were doomed when the Op-Op Fruit deal drew Doflamingo's forces, then activated the Fate Weaver System as the transaction approached. He drugged the pirates' liquor, took the Op-Op Fruit after they fell asleep, and declared that he would eat it himself.

  • Van recalled how the Barrels Pirates had taken him captive and realized that Law, Rosinante, Vergo, and Doflamingo would soon be involved in the Op-Op Fruit transaction.
  • The Fate Weaver System activated and warned Van that the transaction had three fate anchors he could try to change.
  • Dory entered the storeroom to fetch liquor, and Van asked after his injuries before Barrels called him back to the banquet.
  • Barrels displayed the Op-Op Fruit as his crew celebrated their anticipated sale, while Dory poured the drugged liquor Van had prepared.
  • The pirates, including Barrels, collapsed into sleep, and Van retrieved the Op-Op Fruit after it rolled toward the storeroom.

Ch. 2Op-Op Fruit Ability

Van ate the Op-Op Fruit and used its power to escape the mansion with Dory and Rosinante, who was trying to save Law. They set out for Rosinante’s ship to flee Minion Island, while the Marines noticed the pirates’ movements.

  • Van ate the Op-Op Fruit, gained its abilities, and killed the four pirates guarding the mansion.
  • Rosinante arrived, and Van used Operation Room to extinguish the fire caused by Rosinante’s explosion.
  • Van ran downhill, and Dory chose to follow him instead of staying with Barrels.
  • Van, Dory, and Rosinante reached Law, and Van said he would cure Law’s Amber Lead Disease after they escaped.
  • Rosinante led the group toward his ship on the southwestern coast, while Marines monitoring the island noticed the pirates’ unusual movements.

Ch. 3Fate's Correction?

After their boat vanished, Van, Rosinante, Drake, and Law tried to reach the Marines while Doflamingo attacked Minion Island. They encountered Vergo, but he mistook them for civilians who had escaped pirates, leaving their immediate escape possible.

  • Tsuru sent Marines to investigate Minion Island, and Vergo passed news of her movements to Doflamingo, who began his attack.
  • Rosinante discovered his boat was gone, so Van told him to contact Sengoku and request a Marine rescue because Vergo was a Donquixote Family mole.
  • Doflamingo enclosed the town in a vast web of threads, and Rosinante told Sengoku that Vergo's cover had been exposed and reinforcements were needed.
  • Van warned Drake to take Law to Swallow Island if trouble arose, while Rosinante secured Sengoku's agreement to send help.
  • Vergo confronted the group but mistook them for civilians who had escaped pirates, and Rosinante pretended to be mute as he confirmed the story.

Ch. 4A Bitter Battle with Vergo

Van stayed behind to hold off Vergo while Drake carried Rosinante and Law toward the Navy. Van struggled to harm Vergo with the Op-Op Fruit until Rosinante returned with Navy reinforcements, leaving Vergo surrounded.

  • Vergo recognized Rosinante and Law, called Doflamingo, and pursued Van’s group using Geppo.
  • Rosinante volunteered to stay behind, but Van transferred him to Drake, who carried him onward with Law.
  • Van used his Operation Room to dodge Vergo and cut his clothes, but Vergo’s Armament Haki repelled Van’s attacks.
  • Vergo wore Van down and threatened to expose Rosinante’s identity, while Van searched for a way to escape.
  • Rosinante returned with Navy officers, who announced Sengoku’s order to arrest Vergo.
  • Van forced Vergo backward with spatial power, dismissed the Operation Room, and let the Navy surround him.

Ch. 5Let the Marines Suffer

Van and Rosinante tried to escape Vergo aboard a Marine surveillance ship, but Van’s limited control over the Op-Op Fruit left them vulnerable. Van and the others hid in the ship’s hold and waited for rescue while Vergo searched for them and the Marines faced him alone.

  • Van convinced Rosinante to carry him to the surveillance ship, but Vergo caught up and struck Rosinante before Van could move him to safety.
  • Van used the Op-Op Fruit to move Rosinante away from Vergo and helped the Marines sail while they prepared their cannons.
  • The Marines bombarded Vergo, but he survived and waited for the brief moment when Van’s Operation Room disappeared.
  • Van moved himself, Drake, Rosinante, and Law away from the deck, leaving the Marines behind as Vergo searched the ship.
  • Van and the others hid in a soundless, concealed crate in the hold while Vergo hunted for them and the Marines braced for danger.

Ch. 6Doflamingo

Doflamingo arrived at the Navy surveillance ship and hunted down Van and the others, while using his threads to force the Navy officers and soldiers to kill one another. Van escaped the hold with his companions and tried to bargain for their lives, but Rosinante provoked Doflamingo, whose Haki-coated threads threatened them as the chapter ended.

  • Doflamingo arrived with Buffalo and Baby-5, questioned Vergo about the fugitives, and ordered the ship searched.
  • Vergo found Van, Drake, Law, and Rosinante hiding in the hold, but Rosinante delayed him while Van used ROOM and Scan to move the group.
  • Van incapacitated Buffalo and Baby-5, then took Baby-5 hostage and threatened to drop Buffalo into the sea.
  • Doflamingo stopped controlling the surviving Navy personnel and offered to spare Van and his companions if Van joined the Donquixote Family.
  • Rosinante warned Van not to trust Doflamingo, who attacked them with Armament Haki-coated threads that Van could not cut.

Ch. 7A Narrow Escape

Van used his transfer ability and a bomb blast to escape Doflamingo with Rosinante, Law, Baby-5, and Drake, but they ended up adrift in a wooden crate. After Marines rescued them, Colonel Kya refused to take them to Swallow Island without Vice Admiral Tsuru’s approval.

  • Doflamingo tried to force Rosinante and Baby-5 to join the Donquixote Family and threatened Law, so Van transferred everyone away and replaced them with bombs that tore apart the ship’s upper decks.
  • Doflamingo learned Vice Admiral Tsuru was approaching, ordered Buffalo to summon the others, and split the damaged ship with his Twisting Whip before escaping with Vergo.
  • Van and the others realized they were drifting in a crate at sea, and Van used ROOM to check that only a Marine warship was nearby.
  • Van and Rosinante agreed on an escape plan, then Drake broke open the crate so the Marines could rescue them.
  • Colonel Kya recognized Rosinante and offered medical care, but Rosinante said Law needed to reach Swallow Island for medicine for Amber Lead Syndrome.
  • Colonel Kya refused to let them leave without Vice Admiral Tsuru’s approval.

Ch. 8Soaring Strength

Van and Rosinante secured passage to Swallow Island, while Van received system rewards for the Op-Op Fruit event and used them to improve his abilities. With his strength greatly increased but his enemies still pursuing the Donquixote Family, Van decided to keep developing quietly.

  • Rosinante persuaded Kya to send Van and him to Swallow Island by speedboat with supplies, while Rosinante stayed behind for treatment.
  • The system rated the Op-Op Fruit event and awarded Van points, the Silence ability, a Six Powers Experience Book, and access to the shop.
  • Van spent points on Basic and Intermediate Lucky Bags, gaining experience books for physique, auxiliary abilities, combat techniques, and Haki.
  • Van used the experience books to improve his physique, Observation Haki, Six Powers, and medical skills, leaving him with 800 points and an Armament Haki Experience Book.
  • Van recognized that the trouble he had caused made open challenges too risky, so he planned to keep developing quietly.

Ch. 9A Clean Getaway

Van escaped the Marines’ attempt to seize him after reaching Swallow Island and took Baby-5 with him. He hid with his companions on the island while Vice Admiral Tsuru continued her pursuit and Rosinante argued against arresting Van.

  • Colonel Kya ordered the female lieutenant to keep escorting Van’s group, and Van realized the Marines knew he had eaten the Op-Op Fruit.
  • Baby-5 threatened Van and the female lieutenant, but Van incapacitated the lieutenant and promised Baby-5 she could stay with him.
  • Van told Drake to drive toward Maji Island, then secretly circled Swallow Island and hid the speedboat on an uninhabited shore.
  • Van led Drake, Baby-5, and Law into the forest to hide and regroup.
  • Vice Admiral Tsuru arrived at Swallow Island, left a warship to search, and took another toward Maji Island.
  • Rosinante urged Vice Admiral Tsuru to prioritize the Donquixote Family, but she insisted her mission was to capture Van and sent Rosinante back to his cabin.

Ch. 10Treating Illness and Recuperating

Van treated Law’s Amber Lead Disease in a hidden cave on Swallow Island, and the group stayed there while Law recovered. After confirming Law was well, Van sent Drake to town for information and supplies, while Law accepted that he might not see Mr. Cora again soon.

  • Van used his ability to remove the toxins from Law and repair his body, then told Baby-5 and Drake that Law needed time to rest.
  • Drake found a river and returned with a wild boar, which Van quickly butchered with his ability so Drake and Baby-5 could cook dinner.
  • The four companions hid near the cave for several days, and Van confirmed that Law had fully recovered.
  • Van agreed to let Drake disguise himself as a hunter and gather information and supplies in town, while warning him to return before dark.
  • Law asked whether Mr. Cora would come for them, and Van explained that Cora’s position as a Marine lieutenant colonel made it difficult for him to act freely.

Ch. 11Bounties and Plans

After learning that both the Navy and the Donquixote Family had placed bounties on him, Van decided to leave the North Blue and develop elsewhere. He arranged for Drake, Law, and Baby-5 to travel separately to Wikoff, then left alone under cover of a false trail.

  • Drake returned with supplies and reported Van's 50-million-Beli Navy bounty, a 100-million-Beli Underworld bounty from the Donquixote Family, and Vergo's desertion bounty.
  • Van rejected hiding indefinitely and decided to leave the North Blue, while Drake, Baby-5, and Law agreed to follow him.
  • Law and Baby-5 identified Donquixote Family business locations, and Van marked them on a map before choosing Wikoff as their meeting point.
  • Van explained that he would travel alone to draw attention away from the others, and Baby-5 agreed after he promised to keep in contact with Den Den Mushi.
  • Van left that night, arranged for the money and Den Den Mushi to be sent back to the cave, staged the group's departure, and disappeared after reaching the next island.

Ch. 12A Grand Gift, the Pirate Empress Appears

Van destroyed the Donquixote Family’s castle at Spidermiles Port and warned Doflamingo that more attacks were coming. At Marine Headquarters, Sengoku discussed Van’s attacks and the Marines’ plans, then assigned Tsuru to contact Boa Hancock about becoming a Shichibukai.

  • Van used the Op-Op Fruit to destroy the Donquixote Family’s castle at Spidermiles Port and killed the lackeys inside.
  • Van called Señor Pink, told him to pass a warning about more gifts to Doflamingo, and left with a Donquixote Family Den Den Mushi.
  • The Donquixote Family identified Van and used merchant routes to predict other possible targets, but Doflamingo refused to arrange evacuations.
  • Sengoku told Tsuru that Doflamingo’s allies had blocked Marine operations in several kingdoms and that Rosinante wanted a transfer to the North Blue.
  • Sengoku revealed that Zephyr’s Elite Training Camp recruits were in the North Blue and had been tasked with locating Van.
  • Sengoku assigned Tsuru to contact Boa Hancock, the new Pirate Empress, about the World Government’s offer to make her a Shichibukai.

Ch. 13Slave Warehouse

Van infiltrated a warehouse supplying the Donquixote Family’s auction house, killed its guards, and freed the people trapped in cages. He learned that an underground auction would be held in three days and that Doflamingo might attend, then killed the scar-faced overseer.

  • Van told Drake to set out, and Drake said he would bring trusted friends and their ship.
  • Van used his Operation Room to scout the auction house and discovered its underground levels and a tunnel leading toward the harbor.
  • Van spotted people being unloaded in crates and followed the shipment to a warehouse.
  • Van cut down the warehouse guards, opened the crates, and found shackled people in iron cages.
  • Van questioned the scar-faced overseer, who revealed the planned auction and Doflamingo’s possible attendance, then Van killed him.

Ch. 14Sugar and Monet

Van investigated the auction house’s underground levels, found Sugar and Monet among the captives, and prepared the warehouse goods for destruction. After a bearded fighter ambushed him, Van escaped and launched a shell into the tunnel as the man fled.

  • Van silenced the slaves in the warehouse and promised to release them later, then moved Sugar and Monet beside the mermaid’s tank.
  • Van asked the system about constructing Fate Events and learned they required at least 1,000 points and approved Fate Anchors.
  • Van used ROOM to enter the empty third underground level and found crates containing weapons, ammunition, valuables, and other goods.
  • Van opened the crates, spread flammable packing materials and gunpowder across the warehouse, then took a rocket launcher.
  • A bearded fighter and his armed subordinates attacked Van, but Van escaped the bearded man’s grasp by swapping places with a metal ingot.
  • Van fired a shell into the tunnel, forcing the bearded man to retreat toward the stairwell.

Ch. 15Starting a Business with a Loan, Instantly Killing Bellamy

Van returned to the warehouse, killed Bellamy, and created a Fate Event called Redemption with Bellamy, Sugar, and Monet as its anchors. He freed the slaves from their shackles and promised to lead them out.

  • Guweit told the duke that Van had escaped after blowing up the auction building, then argued with him over payment and responsibility.
  • Bellamy arrived at the warehouse intending to capture Van and claim his bounty, but Van defeated him with a kick and the Op-Op Fruit’s power.
  • Van borrowed 5,000 system points and spent 4,000 to create the Fate Event Redemption, naming Bellamy, Sugar, and Monet as Fate Anchors.
  • Van shot the immobilized Bellamy dead, then told the slaves he would get them out and used his power to cut their shackles.

Ch. 16Waiting for the Hare?

Van led the freed slaves through the burning harbor and escaped aboard a merchant ship with Sugar, Monet, and the mermaid, leaving the others to fend for themselves. Meanwhile, Doflamingo learned of the attack and planned to reach the Deliru Kingdom before Van to ambush him.

  • Van ordered the freed slaves to arm themselves, set fires across the warehouse district, and fight their way to the docks.
  • Van used his Operation Room to seize three ships, then left aboard one with Sugar, Monet, the mermaid, and about fifty others while the remaining slaves split between the other ships.
  • Lord Guweit learned that Van had escaped with the slaves and called nearby Marine branches to search the surrounding waters.
  • Doflamingo abandoned plans to deal with Nodiss immediately and sent Vergo to establish the Donquixote Family's footholds in the Grand Line.
  • Doflamingo concluded that Van would likely target the Deliru Kingdom next and decided to go there himself to wait for him.

Ch. 17Marine Attack

Van led the refugees toward a Marine warship, only to discover that the Marines were firing on them and had come to capture him. He destroyed the warship and returned to the refugee ship, where the mermaid warned that another warship was approaching.

  • Van spotted a warship and ordered the refugee ship to draw alongside it, then used ROOM to protect the ship from the Marines' first cannon volley.
  • Van told the refugees that the Marines were targeting him and might silence them; a young man refused to believe him and jumped into the sea.
  • Van expanded ROOM to stop another bombardment, then used Geppo to reach the warship while Monet, Sugar, and the others watched from the refugee ship.
  • Van evaded the Marines' gunfire, used ROOM to sever their heads, and split the warship in half with Amputate.
  • Van returned to the refugee ship, where the mermaid reported that another warship was approaching from behind.

Ch. 18An Admiral Appears

Van faced Zephyr, Smoker, Hina, and a Marine squad as they surrounded the refugee ship, then used his spatial powers to defeat the attackers and escape with the mermaid. The chapter ended with the Marines falling toward the sea and Zephyr moving to save them.

  • Van recognized Zephyr, Smoker, Hina, and the elite Marines closing in on the refugee ship, and told the passengers to take shelter.
  • Van asked the mermaid if he could trust her, and she pledged to do anything for him.
  • Hina trapped the ship with iron bars as the Marines boarded, but Van expanded his Operation Room and cut the charging attackers in half.
  • Van switched Hina's lower body with the mermaid to stop Smoker's attack, then made the mermaid disappear into a wooden barrel.
  • Van sent the Marine attackers, including Hina, falling toward the sea, while Zephyr rushed over to rescue them.

Ch. 19All or Nothing!

Van escaped the Marines by diving into the sea with Blue Moon, an Icefish Mermaid, but his Devil Fruit weakness left him helpless as she carried him deeper underwater. Back on the refugee ship, Smoker defended his decision not to pursue Van, while Monet insisted that Van would survive.

  • Van dodged Zephyr’s attack, then fled with Blue Moon by leaping into the sea as the Operation Room vanished.
  • Blue Moon dived rapidly with Van, who lost his strength underwater and sank until she rescued him and tied him to her chest.
  • Smoker told the refugees that the Marines would register them and send them home, while warning Monet that Van would remain a target.
  • Monet defended Van as Smoker reflected on his choice not to capture him after learning what he had done for the slaves.
  • Zephyr returned Hina and the other Marines to the ship, and Hina told them to stop blaming Smoker because they had been outmatched.

Ch. 20Zephyr

Zephyr and his trainees rescued the refugees and discussed pursuing Van, while Zephyr urged them to prioritize Haki. A dispute over Monet and Sugar’s possible connection to Van ended with Zephyr punishing both sides and promising the girls safe passage home.

  • Zephyr explained that the Marines aboard the destroyed warship were likely dead and said he would take his trainees to the Deliru Kingdom, where they might encounter Van.
  • Zephyr warned Hina, Smoker, Hound, and Dalmatian that Armament Haki was essential to fighting Van and gave them a lecture on training.
  • A registration soldier singled out Monet and Sugar after hearing they had shared a room with Van, and Hound proposed using them to lure him out.
  • Smoker struck Hound with White Blow when Hound moved to take Monet and Sugar into custody, prompting a confrontation among the trainees.
  • Zephyr ordered both sides to spend three days in the brig and assured Monet and Sugar that the Navy would send them home if they were not criminals.
