Without any hesitation, Hayes answered with a firm gaze:
"I've made up my mind. I'm willing to follow you unto death, Boss!"
Hayes was a Whale Shark Fish-Man with blue skin, though his shade was slightly darker than Jinbe's. He was tall, around 3.2 meters by estimate. At Xia Luo's current height, he could only pat Hayes on the shoulder.
Xia Luo smiled. "No need to call me 'sir.' Call me Boss."
Having received Xia Luo's approval, Hayes was overjoyed. "Yes, Boss!"
"Let's go. We'll leave this place first."
The two swiftly departed and headed for another area.
Along the way, Xia Luo learned from Hayes about how he had been captured, as well as his background and age.
Sure enough, Hayes came from the Fish-Man District and was also an orphan. He had grown up there, but his temperament was rather mild and kind. Unlike the other Fish-Men, he was neither hot-tempered nor extreme.
Although he hated humans, he had never done anything overly radical. On Fish-Man Island, he was considered one of the moderates.
Hayes was eighteen this year, the same as a human who had only just come of age.
Not long ago, he had followed Fisher Tiger, the boss of the Fish-Man District, and left Fish-Man Island for the surface.
During a major battle against pirates, Hayes had been severely wounded and fallen unconscious. When he woke up again, a slave collar had already been placed around his neck, and he had been locked in an iron cage.
"I see."
"By the way, is Fisher Tiger the current boss of your Fish-Man District?"
"Mm-hmm, yes. Last year, Brother Tiger defeated every Fish-Man in the Fish-Man District and successfully became the boss."
Hayes asked curiously, "Boss, do you know Brother Tiger?"
"No, but I've heard of him."
