Removing Makeup, Stunning Beauty
Gu Lianyin's features were exquisite, her face without a single flaw. Her large eyes fluttered like beautiful gemstones.
She tidied her slightly messy hair into a high ponytail, and her whole aura instantly changed, gaining a touch of dashing charm.
Beneath her jacket, her figure was well concealed. Her legs were long, and her toned abs from regular exercise were clearly visible. Once she took off her jacket, her full, impressive assets were enough to outshine any girl her age.
"Ugh!"
Looking at herself in the mirror, Gu Lianyin suddenly let out a soft sigh.
She had been mentally prepared when she deliberately made herself ugly before going to school on the first day.
She had expected to be disliked or ignored because of her ugly appearance.
But she had never imagined that someone would call her ugly right to her face.
Almost no one had been willing to sit at the same desk as her!
She felt somewhat wronged.
Gu Lianyin found this contrast rather hard to adapt to.
Before transferring schools, she had no idea how many boys had secretly liked her at her previous school.
Whether on campus or off, she always drew countless glances when walking down the street.
If she had not been so fed up, and if not for that annoyingly persistent suitor she could not shake off, she would never have transferred here.
What surprised her, however, was Lin Yuan, the boy who had been willing to share a desk with her.
Not only had he not minded that she was ugly, he had even stepped forward when she was embarrassed and asked the teacher to let him sit with her.
It made Gu Lianyin feel warm inside.
Having restored her original appearance, Gu Lianyin walked into the living room, tore open a bag of chips on the table, and began eating by herself.
Halfway through the chips, she suddenly heard the sound of a key entering and turning in the lock outside.
Right after that, a girl who looked even uglier than Gu Lianyin had while disguised came in with a sigh.
Her complexion was sallow, and there was a huge black mole at the corner of her left mouth, with a single hair sticking out conspicuously.
She was tall, but certain areas were flat and still awaiting development.
The moment she entered, the girl spotted Gu Lianyin on the couch, rushed over with a howl, and snatched away the remaining half bag of chips.
"I'm so mad! What is wrong with boys these days? When other girls introduced themselves by saying they could sing and dance, the boys below would all gasp in amazement. But when it was my turn, I said I could sing, dance, play the piano, and paint, yet there wasn't a single reaction!"
"And that's not even the worst part! When seats were assigned, the boy sitting next to me actually showed a look like he'd eaten a fly without even trying to hide it. Just how much did he hate sitting with me?!"
The more the girl spoke, the angrier she became, stuffing chips into her mouth as though they were her enemies.
Rather than sympathizing with her ordeal, Gu Lianyin covered her mouth and laughed, looking thoroughly delighted by her misfortune.
"Alright, go take off your makeup first," Gu Lianyin reminded her.
The girl entered the bathroom with a miserable expression and began removing her makeup.
After being washed with cleansing oil, her sallow complexion disappeared, revealing fair, radiant skin.
The large black mole beside her left mouth was fake too, and came off with a light tug.
A few minutes later, a beautiful girl whose looks scored over ninety walked out of the bathroom.
She had an exquisite oval face, a long, fair neck, and soft, rosy lips that seemed delicate enough to break at a touch.
She wore an off-the-shoulder short-sleeved top that revealed her snowy-white, beautiful collarbones and slender arms.
On her lower body was a pair of tight jeans that accentuated her long, beautiful legs.
She was somewhat taller than Gu Lianyin, and every step she took was graceful and elegant.
"I regret making this bet with you, Gu Lianyin. Why did we have to pretend to be ugly? Now look at us—we were originally phoenixes, but we've turned into country chickens."
Gu Lianyin looked at her with a smile. "What, Ling Wanqing? Are you admitting defeat?"
"Fine by me. According to the bet we made, whoever stops pretending to be ugly first and shows their real face at school has to treat the other to dinner at a Michelin restaurant for half a month straight!"
In truth, she and her best friend had disguised themselves as ugly because they had made a bet.
The two of them would both go to school in ugly disguises and see who could keep it up the longest. The winner would be whoever lasted longer.
The loser would then have to accept the corresponding punishment.
Their bet was not without reason.
Before Gu Lianyin transferred schools, she had been adored by everyone at her old school, the goddess in the hearts of countless boys.
There had even been a rich second-generation suitor who bothered her relentlessly every day. She had been so troubled that she had no choice but to transfer schools.
To prevent the same sort of thing from happening again, she decided to disguise herself as ugly at her new school.
"No way! I, Ling Wanqing, can't compete with you in family background, but I refuse to believe I can't beat you in perseverance!"
Ling Wanqing snorted. No matter what, she would not remove her disguise and admit defeat on the very first day of their bet.
Besides, Michelin restaurants were expensive, and she would have to treat someone to dinner for half a month straight.
Her little savings could not withstand that kind of spending.
As if she had thought of something, Ling Wanqing leaned closer with a wicked grin.
"Lianyin, don't laugh at me either. What about you? What happened to you on your first day of school?"
She thought that since she had suffered such humiliation and endured it, Gu Lianyin had surely experienced something similar.
Gu Lianyin did not deny it. She sighed and said, "When the teacher assigned my seat, I was placed next to a boy. But that boy actually said in front of the whole class that I was ugly and didn't want to sit with me!"
At the thought of it, Gu Lianyin angrily waved her little fists. Her angry look was somewhat adorable.
"There was actually someone like that? That's too awful!" Ling Wanqing indignantly stood up for her best friend.
"But it was alright in the end..."
Gu Lianyin suddenly smiled, recalling what had happened that day.
She told her best friend that a boy had voluntarily stood up and asked the teacher to let him sit with her, which had moved her greatly.
"Really?" Ling Wanqing found it hard to believe.
She had personally done Gu Lianyin's ugly makeup. It had been hideous beyond belief, yet someone had actually volunteered to sit with her.
When she learned that the person who had volunteered to sit with Lianyin was actually rather handsome, it became even more unbelievable.
"Is there something wrong with his eyesight?"
"I don't know what he was thinking either. I asked him too."
"Oh? What did he say?"
"He said, 'Does someone have to be good-looking to sit next to me?'"
This made Ling Wanqing unbearably jealous, and she kept making sour remarks.
"Our bet continues. We'll keep pretending to be ugly, and whoever loses pays!"
Meanwhile, Lin Yuan returned to the dormitory.
He had three roommates, and they had remained the same from their first year of high school through their third.
His roommate Li Wencai lived up to his name. He was a highly educated intellectual and a bookworm, refined-looking and the type to blush even when talking to girls.
His second roommate, Wang Ping, liked working out and playing basketball. His grades were average, and he enjoyed climbing over the wall at night to spend all night gaming at internet cafés.
Someone like that actually had a girlfriend.
His last roommate, Liu Qing, came from a family that ran a convenience store. He liked smoking and had a foul mouth.
What Lin Yuan disliked most about him was that he was rather scheming and liked talking badly about people behind their backs.
When he arrived at the dormitory, none of the three roommates were there. They probably had not returned yet.
Feeling somewhat bored, Lin Yuan opened his math textbook and began reading slowly.
Everything he read seemed to be copied directly into his mind.
Moreover, he instantly understood even some of the most difficult mathematical material.
In just over ten minutes, he had finished learning all the math material for the semester!
