He knew that Old Poison, Dugu Bo, was most likely in Sunset Forest as well.
A ninety-first-rank Titled Douluo, with poison techniques throughout his body, known as the Poison Douluo—he was a figure feared throughout the entire Soul Master world.
Although Huang Yun was confident in his speed, he had no desire to provoke such a ruthless character.
Right now, he only wanted to find the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well and take the Immortal Herbs. If he could avoid Dugu Bo, he would; if he truly could not, he would assess the situation and run.
"Dugu Bo, Dugu Bo, I have no interest in fighting you." He muttered to himself, his gaze sweeping across the treetops rushing past below. "You'd better not be home. Or you can be home and sleeping soundly. I'll take what I need and leave; neither of us will get in the other's way. Besides, keeping those Immortal Herbs with you is a waste. They'll only end up benefiting Tang San's group in the future, so they might as well benefit me."
That was what he said, but he knew that he could not place too much hope in something that depended on luck.
During the first two-hour period, he flew across the eastern region of Sunset Forest without finding any obvious unusual areas.
During the second, he turned south and still found nothing.
During the third, his gaze settled on a stretch of continuous mountains in the western part of the forest. The terrain there was more rugged than elsewhere, with ravines and cliffs crisscrossing one another, and the vegetation was even denser.
Huang Yun's eyes lit up slightly.
Such a place was more likely to contain a basin or valley, and more likely to conceal an unknown special region.
He accelerated toward that area, descending until he skimmed the treetops as he carefully scanned every inch of ground below.
Another half hour passed. Just as Huang Yun began to think he might not find any clue today, his attention was suddenly drawn to an area below.
It was a valley enclosed by towering mountain walls. Its entrance was extremely well concealed, with rocks and vines on both sides almost completely covering the passage. If one did not look down from high above, it would be impossible to notice there was even a gap there.
The air above the valley held an unnatural hue. A faint layer of green mist could vaguely be seen circling above it, glimmering strangely beneath the sunlight.
Huang Yun's spirits lifted.
He lowered himself, hovering close above the valley, and carefully sensed the changes in the surrounding airflow and temperature.
Sure enough.
He could clearly feel two utterly different auras mixed into the air around the valley.
One was blazing hot like fire, while the other was icy cold like frost.
The two auras intertwined and collided in the air, forming a subtle yet peculiar balance.
The Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well.
This had to be the place!
A smile curled across Huang Yun's lips. Just as he was about to dive down and investigate, he suddenly froze.
Because he sensed another aura.
On the mountain wall at the edge of the valley, a figure stood silently with his hands behind his back. His long dark green hair fluttered lightly in the mountain wind.
The man wore a dark green robe and stood tall and straight. A faint green mist seemed to coil around him, while the plants around where he stood visibly withered and yellowed.
Dugu Bo.
Huang Yun's pupils narrowed. He instantly suppressed his own aura to the utmost limit, abruptly stopping in midair as his gaze locked tightly onto the figure on the distant mountain wall.
"Old Poison really is home." He murmured, frowning slightly.
Dugu Bo stood high on the mountain wall, his gaze directed toward the valley before him. He seemed to be inspecting his territory, or perhaps observing the state of that area.
Huang Yun had not exposed any fluctuations of Soul Power while flying at high speed above the forest earlier, and he had promptly concealed his aura now. With such a considerable distance between them, the other man should not have noticed his presence.
But that did not mean he was safe.
A Titled Douluo's range of Mental Power was terrifyingly vast. If he moved any closer, Dugu Bo might discover him at any moment.
Huang Yun hovered in the shadows above the treetops, his gaze rapidly sweeping over the terrain below and Dugu Bo's position as his mind raced.
Dugu Bo was standing at the high point near the valley entrance. With his broad field of view, he had nearly sealed off every path into the valley from that direction.
If Huang Yun forced his way in, his speed would be enough to get through, but it would make too much noise. Once Dugu Bo began fighting, the area around the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well would definitely be affected. If those Immortal Herbs were damaged in the battle, this trip would have been for nothing.
The best plan was to wait.
Wait for Dugu Bo to leave.
A Titled Douluo could not possibly stand guard there all day without moving. Sooner or later, he would leave to patrol or attend to other matters.
Huang Yun had plenty of patience. His speed was fast anyway, so he could simply find somewhere to hide and observe, then quietly slip in after Dugu Bo left.
Having decided this, Huang Yun silently retreated some distance. He found an ancient tree with exceptionally dense branches and leaves, landed within it, and completely concealed his body and aura amid the thick canopy.
He leaned against the trunk and sat down, watching the dark green figure on the mountain wall through gaps in the leaves.
"Fine, keep guarding it." He tugged at the corner of his mouth and rested both hands behind his head. "Let's see who can outlast whom."
Birdsong echoed through the forest, while sunlight filtered through layer upon layer of leaves, casting mottled patterns of light across the canopy.
Huang Yun closed his eyes to rest, his aura faint to the point of seeming nonexistent. He was like a shadow hidden within the forest, quietly lying in wait.
Meanwhile, on the distant mountain wall, Dugu Bo still stood with his hands behind his back, completely unaware that someone had already set his sights on this territory.
Huang Yun lay in wait amid the canopy for roughly four hours.
During that time, Dugu Bo changed positions several times. He walked down from high on the mountain wall to stand at the valley entrance for a while, then patrolled along the edge of the cliff.
His pace was unhurried. Occasionally, he bent down to inspect the plants on the ground; occasionally, he raised his head to observe the changes in the mist above the valley. He was like a gardener inspecting his own garden.
"He's quite dedicated." Huang Yun muttered softly within the canopy.
But soon, a turning point came.
A low beastly roar sounded from deep within Sunset Forest. Then came another, deeper and more powerful than the first, carrying clear fury and provocation.
The roars echoed between the mountains. Though they came from far away, Huang Yun heard them clearly with his sharp hearing.
Dugu Bo's figure, which had been standing with his hands behind his back, shifted slightly. He frowned and looked toward the source of the roars for several breaths.
Then he snorted coldly. His dark green figure shot into the air, transforming into a streak of green light that sped toward that direction at astonishing speed. In the blink of an eye, he vanished into the depths of the dense forest.
Huang Yun's eyes snapped open.
He left?
He did not act immediately. Instead, he waited for the time it took to drink half a cup of tea, confirming that Dugu Bo's aura had indeed moved far away from the area and showed no sign of returning. Only then did he silently rise from the canopy.
Good opportunity.
His figure slipped soundlessly from the ancient tree like Lightning, weaving swiftly along the treetop layer. Within a few breaths, he arrived at the entrance to the valley.
