The Jedi Knight and the Scorpion King had died after jumping from a building. It was wildly unscientific, and Russell had taken a long time to accept reality.
Leaving everything else aside, just their faces alone made them seem like people who wouldn't die so easily.
At the very least, jumping off a building definitely shouldn't have killed them. Like a Leap of Faith, there should always have been a lawn or an awning below.
At worst, there should have been a swimming pool, a crooked tree, or something!
"Chief, it isn't appropriate to speak of two outstanding colleagues like this, but I still have to ask: what did the coroner say? Were they, at the time... you know."
As he spoke, Russell mimed smoking.
"Stop overthinking it. They didn't do anything out of line at the time. The autopsy report showed that everything was normal, with no signs of foul play."
The chief described what had happened. The bald brothers had chased robbers who had hit a jewelry store. The robbers had used Special Forces zip lines to escape from a high-rise, but for some reason, the bald brothers had jumped from more than a dozen stories up and both become photographs.
It didn't sound normal at all!
Russell shook his head slightly. "Maybe the coroner is the mole. They couldn't uncover the truth behind Tony's death, and they couldn't figure out why the bald brothers mindlessly jumped off a building either."
"I know you suspect this was a vicious case of retaliation against police officers, but it has nothing to do with you. That's something headquarters should worry about. Someone is already investigating it."
"Fine!"
Russell nodded. Aside from the bald brothers, New York Police Department headquarters had plenty of elite detectives, each one practically a chosen hero.
