"Jason, is that you?"
Separated by two layers of glass, Russell muttered to himself. He knew very well that, according to the Soul Contract, the Jason across from him was not the Jason he knew.
Gears turned as Russell's cell slowly slid to the left. Jason across from him maintained his downward-looking pose, his body motionless while his eyes followed Russell little by little until he disappeared from view.
A Werewolf replaced Jason. Perhaps it had been locked up for too long, because its attitude was far from friendly. It bared its fangs and waved its claws like a mad beast, drooling at Russell and roaring repeatedly, eager to swallow him alive.
"Roar, roar, roar—"
"Hmm!?"
"Whimper, whimper, whimper!!"
Separated by two layers of unbreakable glass, the Werewolf was startled by Russell's glare. Its legs went weak as it shrank into a corner, trembling pitifully, completely stripped of its earlier arrogance.
The Werewolf was not very intelligent, but its beastly instincts were incredibly sharp. Through Russell's red eyes, it saw a dense, pitch-black shadow behind him.
Black lines outlined its shape. The enormous Demon King stood ten thousand feet tall, clad in a robe wreathed in black flames. Dark smoke curled above its body, transforming into faces filled with twisted despair.
Physically, the Werewolf looked down on Russell, but spiritually, it had to crane its head far upward, only to discover that the other party had not even glanced at it.
There was no need to exchange looks to know this was someone it could not afford to provoke.
The gears never stopped, and the cells before Russell continued changing. After the Werewolf, familiar and unfamiliar figures flashed past one after another.
Xenomorphs, ogres, ghosts, zombies, mummies, giant pythons, tree demons, vampires, scarecrows...
