Ch. 1901No Turning Back

Chapter Summary: “No Turning Back”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Shen Luo learns from Xuanyuan’s remnant soul that his Immortal-Demonic Fusion is far less advanced than he believed—less than ten percent—despite already granting tremendous power.
  • Xuanyuan explains that even he and Chi You managed only about fifty-percent fusion, and that deeper fusion causes the immortal and demonic energies to violently conflict within the body and Divine Soul.
  • This conflict eventually produces unbearable pain, madness, and death. Xuanyuan reveals that several of his own generals died attempting Immortal-Demonic Dual Cultivation, and that he survived only because an outside expert helped expel the demonic qi from his body.
  • Nie Caizhu urges Shen Luo to abandon the Profound Yang Demon Transformation and focus on his Law of Strength instead.
  • Shen Luo reveals the true severity of his condition: nearly half of his Innate Vital Energy has already been demonized. The demonic qi cannot be expelled, and abandoning his cultivation method would not save him. Without mastering it, he will eventually become a bloodthirsty monster.
  • Refusing to accept death, Shen Luo decides he has no choice but to continue pursuing Immortal-Demonic Fusion.
  • Nie Caizhu begs Xuanyuan for the method once used to remove his demonic qi, but learns that the necessary Evil-Repelling Pearl was destroyed and the immortal who assisted Xuanyuan is long gone.
  • Shen Luo remains determined, placing hope in his talent for fusion, the Chaotic Black Lotus within him, and the future assistance of the Origin-Fusing Gu. Nie Caizhu ultimately chooses to trust him.

Character Developments

  • Shen Luo: His confidence in the Profound Yang Demon Transformation is shaken, but he becomes even more resolute. He accepts that continuing the dangerous path is not merely a pursuit of greater strength but his only chance of survival.
  • Nie Caizhu: Her initial excitement over Shen Luo’s power turns into fear and grief once she learns the truth about his condition. Despite her distress, she ultimately supports his decision and regains hope through his determination.
  • Xuanyuan Remnant Soul: He serves as a warning from experience, explaining both the potential and fatal consequences of Immortal-Demonic Fusion. His own survival demonstrates that escape may once have been possible, but he cannot offer Shen Luo a practical solution.

Significant Themes

  • Desperation and survival: Shen Luo continues down a deadly path because the alternative is certain physical and spiritual corruption.
  • Defying fate and the Heavenly Dao: Immortal-Demonic Fusion is described as violating the natural order, yet Shen Luo refuses to surrender to what seems like an unavoidable fate.
  • The cost of power: The Profound Yang Demon Transformation grants extraordinary strength but threatens the user’s body, soul, sanity, and future.
  • Hope against impossible odds: Although Xuanyuan presents fusion as a near-certain dead end, Shen Luo believes his unique talents and treasures may allow him to succeed where others failed.
  • Trust and emotional support: Nie Caizhu cannot remove Shen Luo’s danger, but her decision to believe in him gives him emotional strength.

Character Interactions

  • Xuanyuan acts as Shen Luo’s mentor and cautionary voice, warning him about the consequences of deeper fusion.
  • Nie Caizhu challenges Shen Luo’s decision and pleads for him to abandon the dangerous technique, revealing her deep concern for his life.
  • Shen Luo reassures Nie Caizhu while honestly explaining why he cannot retreat.
  • Nie Caizhu’s plea to Xuanyuan highlights her desperation to save Shen Luo, but Xuanyuan’s inability to help leaves them with no alternative.
  • The chapter ends with Nie Caizhu accepting Shen Luo’s resolve, creating a bond of mutual trust amid the looming danger.

Ch. 1902Inheritance

Chapter Summary: Inheritance

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Shen Luo accepts that his Immortal-Demonic Dual Cultivation has placed him on a seemingly fatal path, but resolves to fight rather than wait for death.
  • Xuanyuan Remnant Soul reveals that he has spent countless years searching for a way to overcome the cultivation dead end. He created a technique called the Pangu True Art, designed to fuse immortal and demonic powers.
  • Xuanyuan admits that he was testing Shen Luo’s determination and apologizes for misleading him. Shen Luo accepts the explanation, while Nie Caizhu defends her cousin’s bluntness.
  • Xuanyuan offers to teach Shen Luo the Pangu True Art, but demands that Shen Luo eventually kill Chi You in return.
  • He explains that Chi You’s greatest strength is his True Demon Undying Body, which allows him to recover from any injury as long as demonic qi exists.
  • The perfected Pangu True Art could form a version of the legendary Pangu Body, allowing its user to control fused immortal-demonic power and potentially overcome Chi You’s immortality.
  • However, Xuanyuan reveals that the technique is incomplete. It can fuse immortal and demonic forces only to about ninety percent, and he has never discovered how to achieve complete fusion.
  • The chapter ends with Shen Luo asking whether ninety-percent fusion is enough to prevent the backlash caused by Immortal-Demonic Dual Cultivation.

Character Developments

  • Shen Luo demonstrates greater resolve and emotional composure. Having accepted that retreat is impossible, he is willing to risk everything to gain power and survive.
  • His skepticism and directness become clear when he challenges Xuanyuan to state his true intentions instead of accepting vague explanations.
  • Shen Luo’s previous encounter with Chi You has reduced his fear of the demon progenitor and makes him more willing to consider a future confrontation.
  • Xuanyuan Remnant Soul is revealed to be both a mentor and a tester. He has dedicated thousands of years to researching the Immortal-Demonic Dual Cultivation problem and sees Shen Luo as a suitable successor.
  • Xuanyuan’s confidence is tempered by humility: he admits that the Pangu True Art remains unfinished and that even his long research has not solved its final obstacle.
  • Nie Caizhu remains protective of Shen Luo, initially questioning Xuanyuan’s demand and apologizing for Shen Luo’s bluntness. Her excitement at the possibility of defeating Chi You turns to concern when she learns the technique is incomplete.

Significant Themes

  • Resolve in the face of death: Shen Luo chooses action and struggle over helplessly awaiting destruction.
  • Inheritance and responsibility: Xuanyuan’s cultivation art is not simply a gift; it comes with the burden of killing Chi You and continuing Xuanyuan’s unfinished purpose.
  • The limits of human understanding: Even after tens of thousands of years of study, Xuanyuan cannot fully reproduce the Pangu Body or complete the fusion of immortal and demonic forces.
  • Defying natural law: Complete Immortal-Demonic Dual Force fusion violates the Heavenly Dao, suggesting that Shen Luo’s path requires challenging the fundamental order of the world.
  • Hope within impossibility: Although Immortal-Demonic Dual Cultivation is considered a dead end, the Pangu True Art offers a narrow possibility of survival and victory.

Character Interactions

  • Xuanyuan tests Shen Luo’s determination, while Shen Luo responds with calm suspicion and demands honesty.
  • Nie Caizhu supports Shen Luo and acts as a mediator between him and Xuanyuan.
  • Xuanyuan respects Shen Luo’s straightforward nature, viewing it as evidence of the qualities required in a successor.
  • The revelation about Chi You unites Shen Luo and Nie Caizhu in hope, but Xuanyuan’s admission that the technique is incomplete immediately restores tension and uncertainty.

Ch. 1903Yin-Yang Creation Diagram

Chapter Summary: Yin-Yang Creation Diagram

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Xuanyuan Remnant Soul explains that the Pangu True Art can greatly reduce the backlash caused by Shen Luo’s opposing immortal and demonic energies. Reaching ninety-percent fusion would protect him for roughly a thousand years, but only complete mastery could eliminate the danger entirely.
  • Shen Luo accepts the possibility of eventually dying from the backlash, arguing that the Three Realms are endangered by Chi You’s resurrection and that he cannot stand aside while the world faces destruction.
  • Xuanyuan warns Shen Luo that the Pangu True Art is exceptionally dangerous. Any mistake during cultivation could cause him to lose his cultivation or die within half a day. Shen Luo accepts the risk without blaming Xuanyuan.
  • Shen Luo retrieves the golden tome containing the Pangu True Art. Its first page displays the Yin-Yang Creation Diagram, a complex Magic Power circulation chart.
  • Xuanyuan reveals that he created the diagram by studying countless races, ancient beasts, cultivation techniques, and the laws of yin, yang, and the five elements. It forms the foundation of the Pangu True Art.
  • Shen Luo immediately tests the diagram by circulating his immortal Magic Power and demonic energy through it. Though the two forces initially clash violently, they gradually become calmer and begin to merge.
  • The tome describes nine secret arts: Illuminated Sitting, Grotto Truth, Golden Scripture, Chaotic Grotto, Mystic Capital, Jade Void, Supreme Sublimity, Hidden Truth, and Return to Oneness. Each completed stage fuses another tenth of the immortal and demonic forces, with the final stage enabling ninety-percent fusion.
  • The art also includes methods for strengthening the body and Divine Soul and suppressing Heart Demons.
  • Although the Yin-Yang Creation Diagram promises astonishing cultivation speed and the ability to refine almost any spiritual or demonic energy, this speed creates an even greater danger: the resulting backlash is compressed into a much shorter period, placing enormous strain on Shen Luo’s body and soul.

Character Developments

  • Shen Luo demonstrates courage and determination. He accepts the limited protection and potentially fatal risks of the Pangu True Art because he feels responsible for helping oppose Chi You and protect the Three Realms.
  • He also shows confidence and adaptability by immediately experimenting with the Yin-Yang Creation Diagram rather than merely studying it theoretically.
  • Xuanyuan Remnant Soul is portrayed as cautious, responsible, and deeply invested in Shen Luo’s survival. He repeatedly warns Shen Luo of the art’s dangers and takes pride in the culmination of his life’s work.
  • Xuanyuan’s visible relief after the tome is removed suggests that his long-held duty or burden may finally be nearing completion.
  • Nie Caizhu reacts with fear when she learns that Shen Luo may only be safe for a thousand years, revealing her concern for him and the emotional stakes of his decision.

Significant Themes

  • Sacrifice and responsibility: Shen Luo accepts a potentially shortened life to resist Chi You and defend the living beings of the Three Realms.
  • The balance of opposites: The Pangu True Art seeks to reconcile immortal and demonic forces that naturally oppose one another, reflecting the broader principle of yin and yang.
  • Power and danger: Greater power comes with greater risk. The art’s extraordinary efficiency also accelerates the backlash threatening Shen Luo’s life.
  • Human limitation versus transcendence: Xuanyuan’s creation draws on countless races, beasts, techniques, and cosmic principles, suggesting an attempt to approach or understand the Heavenly Dao.
  • Knowledge as both salvation and peril: The Pangu True Art may solve Shen Luo’s problem, but mastering it requires navigating a cultivation process where even a minor error can be fatal.

Character Interactions

  • Nie Caizhu questions Xuanyuan about what will happen after the thousand-year protection ends, expressing concern for Shen Luo’s future.
  • Xuanyuan repeatedly cautions Shen Luo against underestimating the Pangu True Art, while Shen Luo calmly accepts the consequences.
  • Shen Luo sincerely praises the Yin-Yang Creation Diagram, pleasing Xuanyuan and prompting a rare smile from the remnant soul.
  • Their exchange reflects mutual respect: Xuanyuan offers the culmination of his life’s research, while Shen Luo acknowledges its value and willingly assumes its risks.

Ch. 1904Heavenly Dream Pillow

Chapter Summary: Heavenly Dream Pillow

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Xuanyuan Remnant Soul explains the major flaw of the Pangu True Art: fusing immortal and demonic power causes dangerous backlash. The nine Pangu Mystical Arts were created to lessen this danger.
  • The backlash is transformed into Thunder Tribulations. Each ten-percent increase in the fusion of immortal and demonic power triggers a special tribulation; surviving allows further cultivation, while failure results in death.
  • Shen Luo becomes deeply absorbed in studying the Pangu True Art.
  • Nie Caizhu asks Xuanyuan Remnant Soul for a cultivation method so she can help oppose Chi You’s approaching Demonic Calamity. Recognizing her Zhu Jiuyin, Rushou, and Gonggong bloodlines, Xuanyuan gives her the ancient Witch God Art, which was intended to unite the powers of the Twelve Ancestral Witches.
  • Shen Luo awakens first and receives advice from Xuanyuan. He is warned that the beginning stages of the Pangu True Art are especially dangerous and that treasures capable of assisting immortal-demonic energy fusion would be helpful.
  • Shen Luo asks about the Origin-Devouring Coiled Silkworm, a key ingredient for refining the Origin-Fusing Gu. Xuanyuan reveals that one exists near the entrance to the Well of Gods and Demons and provides a map.
  • Xuanyuan also gives Shen Luo the Pan King Scripture, an ancient text on Gu Arts, which Shen Luo intends to pass to Yuan Qiu.
  • Xuanyuan notices that Shen Luo’s innate vital energy is damaged from repeatedly using a space-time treasure. He identifies Shen Luo’s white Jade Pillow as the legendary Heavenly Dream Pillow.
  • Xuanyuan reveals that the pillow once belonged to the Nine Heavens Mysterious Maiden during the Battle of Zhuolu. It contains the Space-Time Law and can only be fully activated by someone who comprehends either the Time Law or the Space Law.

Character Developments

  • Shen Luo commits to cultivating the Pangu True Art despite its deadly risks. He also begins planning how to obtain the Origin-Fusing Gu and becomes interested in the Heavenly Dream Pillow’s origins and capabilities.
  • Nie Caizhu receives a cultivation inheritance suited to her Witch Race bloodlines, potentially allowing her to gather the powers of the Twelve Ancestral Witches and greatly increase her strength.
  • Xuanyuan Remnant Soul acts as a mentor to both protagonists, generously providing powerful cultivation arts, practical guidance, and historical knowledge.
  • Shen Luo’s previous use of the Heavenly Dream Pillow is revealed to have severely shortened his lifespan, adding a serious cost to his time-space abilities.

Significant Themes

  • Power and danger: Greater strength requires surviving increasingly severe trials, and both the Pangu True Art and the Heavenly Dream Pillow carry potentially fatal consequences.
  • Fusion and balance: The Pangu True Art focuses on reconciling opposing immortal and demonic energies, while the Witch God Art seeks to unite the powers of multiple Ancestral Witches.
  • Inheritance and destiny: Ancient arts and treasures are passed from legendary figures to the current generation, giving Shen Luo and Nie Caizhu the chance to fulfill unfinished ambitions from the past.
  • Limits of external aids: Xuanyuan stresses that treasures and Gu insects can assist cultivation but cannot replace true comprehension and personal mastery.
  • The cost of manipulating time and space: Shen Luo’s lifespan has been damaged by using the Heavenly Dream Pillow, emphasizing that extraordinary abilities demand extraordinary sacrifices.

Important Character Interactions

  • Xuanyuan evaluates Nie Caizhu’s bloodlines and presents her with the Witch God Art.
  • Xuanyuan advises Shen Luo on safely cultivating the Pangu True Art and gives him the location of the Origin-Devouring Coiled Silkworm.
  • Shen Luo questions Xuanyuan about Gu Arts, leading to the gift of the Pan King Scripture.
  • Xuanyuan recognizes the Heavenly Dream Pillow and explains its connection to the Nine Heavens Mysterious Maiden. Shen Luo briefly touches on Xuanyuan’s relationship with her, creating an awkward moment before Xuanyuan resumes his explanation.

Ch. 1905Xuanyuan Sword

Chapter Summary: Xuanyuan Sword

Key Plot Points and Events

It once allowed him to travel through dreams to the future, but after shattering during the Demonic Calamity, it could only send his Divine Soul into the past. The Remnant Soul reveals that the pillow supposedly possesses four time-space abilities, though even he does not know them all.
  • Nie Caizhu awakens from her meditation after comprehending the Witch God Art, which the Xuanyuan Remnant Soul taught her. He tells her that, if fully mastered, it may rival the Pangu True Art and will be valuable against the resurrected Chi You.
  • Demons outside begin attacking the hall’s defenses. Shen Luo volunteers to fight them, confident after gaining new insights into the Pangu True Art, but the Remnant Soul dismisses the threat and instead leads him and Nie Caizhu to a mysterious furnace.
  • The furnace burns with a mixture of True Solar Fire, Six Ding Divine Fire, and the exceedingly rare Eight-Treasure Glazed Flame. The Remnant Soul adds Xuanyuan Divine Wood and uses the furnace to restore Shen Luo’s damaged sword.
  • The restored weapon is revealed to be the Xuanyuan Sword, formerly known as the Demon-Slaying Divine Sword. Its Righteous Thunder Law had nearly collapsed, but the Xuanyuan Divine Wood replenishes its power.
  • The Remnant Soul explains that the sword itself disliked its former name and chose to be called Xuanyuan Sword. He entrusts it to Shen Luo, believing it can protect him until he completes the Pangu True Art.
  • After accepting Shen Luo as its new wielder, the sword releases a powerful righteous lightning aura. This resonates with Shen Luo’s Pure Yang Swords and causes his cultivation to surge toward a breakthrough.
  • The Remnant Soul assists him by sending a sword intent into his mind, clearing away distracting thoughts and breaking through his bottleneck. Shen Luo successfully advances to the Late-Tier Taiyi Realm and begins stabilizing his new cultivation.

Character Developments

  • Shen Luo: Gains a deeper understanding of the Jade Pillow and receives the restored Xuanyuan Sword. His confidence increases, and his cultivation breaks through to the Late-Tier Taiyi Realm.
  • Nie Caizhu: Successfully comprehends the Witch God Art, gaining a powerful new cultivation method that may allow her to stand against Chi You in the future.

  • Misu discovers an inscription stating that the tower can be opened only by obtaining the Demon-Revealing Mirror, the Five-Fire Divine Flame Seal, and the Dreamcloud Illusory Armor. This revelation surprises Manjushri and Samantabhadra because it conflicts with the information Spirit Mountain provided.

After Shen Luo destroys the head and burns away the poison, Tuhun Zhu regenerates another head and attempts to flee.
  • Tuhun Zhu deploys the Soul-Seizing Banner, releasing the military souls taken from the Yin Ridge Mountain Ancient Tomb. Shen Luo refuses to destroy the souls because he intends to use them in his future advancement, so he immobilizes the banner with the Treasure-Dropping Golden Coin instead.

  • Lu Xiu remains behind rather than fleeing. Driven by rage and a desire to kill Shen Luo, he allows the Ghost-Howling Long Saber to consume him. The demon blade absorbs its master, transforms, and gains an even more powerful aura as it prepares to fight Shen Luo.

Character Developments

  • Shen Luo demonstrates that he had concealed the full extent of his cultivation, using surprise and overwhelming force to reverse what appeared to be a lethal attack. His control over multiple powerful treasures and his tactical judgment are emphasized.
  • He also shows restraint and strategic foresight by avoiding harm to the military souls within the Soul-Seizing Banner, viewing them as valuable resources for his future cultivation.
  • Despite defeating Tuhun Zhu, Shen Luo is not unharmed; the self-destruction leaves part of his body burned and exposed to demonic corruption.
  • Tuhun Zhu shifts from an aggressive hunter to a desperate fugitive. After losing his bonded treasure and suffering fatal injuries, he resorts to regeneration, poison, demonic treasures, and finally suicide.
  • Bai Chuan proves opportunistic and self-preserving, abandoning the conflict as soon as Shen Luo becomes occupied with Tuhun Zhu.
  • Lu Xiu becomes consumed by hatred and vengeance. Rather than retreat after witnessing Tuhun Zhu’s death, he sacrifices himself to empower the demon blade, losing his humanity and control in the process.

Significant Themes

  • Hidden strength and deception: Shen Luo’s suppressed aura allows him to turn a seemingly unavoidable defeat into a decisive counterattack.
  • The cost of vengeance: Lu Xiu’s obsession with killing Shen Luo leads him to surrender his body and identity to the demon blade.
  • Power through sacrifice and corruption: Both Tuhun Zhu and Lu Xiu rely on self-destructive demonic methods, showing the dangerous price of their power.
  • Strategic restraint: Shen Luo’s refusal to destroy the military souls highlights the importance of long-term goals over immediate victory.
  • Master and weapon reversed: The Ghost-Howling Long Saber ultimately devours Lu Xiu, symbolizing demonic power escaping its wielder’s control.

Character Interactions

  • Shen Luo and Lu Xiu clash directly, with Shen Luo overpowering Lu Xiu’s initial attack and later becoming the target of Lu Xiu’s final, transformed demon blade.

  • Shen Luo reveals that Bai Chuan possesses both Frost-and-Snow Law and Shadow Law, making him especially dangerous in stealth attacks.
  • Fire Spirit Child joins Shen Luo and Nie Caizhu after the battle. Shen Luo begins meditating and recovering, while Fire Spirit Child prepares two mysterious metal objects on the Guxuan Star Disk.

Character Developments

  • Shen Luo: Demonstrates overwhelming combat ability by defeating three Taiyi cultivators alone, using both the Xuanyuan Divine Sword and Minghong Battle Saber. Despite his victory, his magic power is completely drained, emphasizing the physical and spiritual cost of his strength. He also remains alert enough to respond to Bai Chuan’s ambush.
  • Nie Caizhu: Plays a crucial supporting role by restraining Youxiong Kun and protecting Shen Luo during his exhaustion. Her concern for him becomes evident, and she feels both relieved and slightly aggrieved that he concealed the seriousness of the situation from her.
  • Youxiong Kun: Shifts from attempting escape to a desperate last stand in his true bear form, but is ultimately overwhelmed and killed.
  • Bai Chuan: Is revealed as a patient and highly skilled assassin with Shadow Law abilities. Though he nearly catches Shen Luo off guard, his caution allows him to escape when Fire Spirit Child’s formation briefly exposes him.
  • Fire Spirit Child: Shows strategic patience by remaining hidden during the major battle. He secretly prepares a formation to assist Shen Luo and later takes responsibility for guarding him while he recovers.

Significant Themes

  • The cost of victory: Shen Luo’s triumph comes at the price of near-total exhaustion, showing that even overwhelming power has limits.
  • Caution and deception: Bai Chuan’s ambush and Shen Luo’s apparent vulnerability highlight the importance of concealment, timing, and battlefield awareness.
  • Cooperation and trust: Nie Caizhu and Fire Spirit Child both provide essential support, demonstrating that Shen Luo cannot always rely on individual strength alone.
  • Hidden strength: Several characters conceal their abilities or intentions—Bai Chuan hides in the shadows, Fire Spirit Child withholds his intervention, and Shen Luo’s true condition is initially difficult to judge.
  • The continuing threat: Although three major demons are dead, Bai Chuan’s escape and the mysterious objects Fire Spirit Child prepares suggest that danger and larger conflicts remain.

Character Interactions

  • Shen Luo and Nie Caizhu fight together indirectly: she restrains Youxiong Kun while Shen Luo finishes him.
  • Nie Caizhu rushes to Shen Luo’s aid after Bai Chuan’s attack and later offers to guard him during recovery, revealing her emotional concern.
  • Fire Spirit Child explains that his formation prevented Bai Chuan from landing the assassination strike, while Shen Luo acknowledges Bai Chuan’s concealed abilities.
  • Fire Spirit Child praises Shen Luo’s terrifying combat strength, while Nie Caizhu complains that both men had kept her uninformed about the danger.
  • The chapter ends with Nie Caizhu questioning Fire Spirit Child about the two metal objects he places on the Guxuan Star Disk, setting up the next development.

Ch. 1911A Colossal Beast

After sensing the Northern Abyss Kun, Shen Luo led Nie Caizhu and Fire Spirit Child to find it, leaving Ao Hong and the others behind. They discovered the colossal creature badly wounded, and when it attacked, Shen Luo shattered the compressed space before them.

  • Shen Luo sensed a connection to the Northern Abyss Kun and decided to follow it rather than wait for Ao Hong and the others.

Ch. 1913Deadly Enmity

Chapter Summary: “Deadly Enmity”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Bai Chuan, leader of the Myriad Demons Alliance, survives his confrontation with Shen Luo but is badly injured. Furious over the near-destruction of his alliance, he swears that he and Shen Luo will fight until one of them dies.
  • While recovering beneath a cliff, Bai Chuan detects unusual spiritual fluctuations behind a concealed barrier. Using an Octagonal Copper Plate designed to break restrictions, he opens a hidden passage.
  • The passage leads through a cavern filled with stalactites and a pool of dripping water, eventually opening into a secluded valley.
  • In the valley, Bai Chuan discovers two apparent treasures: an azure bamboo pole and a purple gourd tied to it with a red ribbon. Both radiate powerful spiritual light, while a small thatched hut stands nearby.
  • As Bai Chuan approaches the treasures, a swarm of enormous hornet-like insects attacks him. His Divine Sense identifies them as Origin-Devouring Coiled Silkworms, dangerous creatures with extraordinarily tough bodies and the ability to shrink themselves.
  • Bai Chuan’s ice needles and fire talismans fail to injure the insects. He then releases powerful law-based frost, freezing the entire swarm in place.

Character Developments

  • Bai Chuan: His hatred of Shen Luo intensifies after the collapse of the Myriad Demons Alliance. Despite his injuries, he remains resourceful and determined, quickly exploiting the hidden barrier and using specialized treasure-breaking equipment. His caution and combat experience are evident, but his desire for treasure leads him into a dangerous encounter.
  • Shen Luo: Though absent from the chapter’s main action, he remains the central cause of Bai Chuan’s rage. His earlier victory has effectively crippled Bai Chuan’s faction.
  • Origin-Devouring Coiled Silkworms: Introduced as formidable magical creatures. Their armor-like bodies resist ice and fire, and their ability to shrink makes them difficult to target.

Significant Themes

  • Revenge and obsession: Bai Chuan’s determination to kill Shen Luo demonstrates how personal hatred has overtaken broader strategic concerns.
  • Survival and opportunism: Even while injured, Bai Chuan immediately searches for advantages and seizes the opportunity presented by the hidden cave.
  • Hidden danger behind treasure: The radiant treasures initially appear to promise great rewards, but the path to them is guarded by powerful and unexpected creatures.
  • Power versus preparedness: Bai Chuan’s ordinary attacks fail, forcing him to rely on higher-level law powers to overcome the insects.

Character Interactions

  • The primary interaction is indirect: Bai Chuan’s unresolved conflict with Shen Luo drives his actions and shapes his emotional state.
  • Bai Chuan directly confronts the Origin-Devouring Coiled Silkworms, testing several attacks against them before successfully freezing them with extreme cold.
  • No dialogue occurs between Bai Chuan and other human characters in this chapter; the tension instead comes from his internal vow of vengeance and his battle with the insect swarm.

Ch. 1914Struggle for the Purple Gourd

Chapter Summary: Struggle for the Purple Gourd

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Bai Chuan approaches the frozen slope where the Origin-Devouring Coiled Silkworms are trapped. The insects begin draining the frost’s Magic Power, causing it to melt.
  • He kills two silkworms by crushing them within a powerful shadow technique. The remaining insects retreat into the purple gourd attached to a Green Bamboo Rod.
  • As Bai Chuan prepares to claim the rod and gourd, Sun Granny and the sisters Liu Feiyan and Liu Feixu of Daughter Village arrive.
  • Sun Granny demands the two treasures as compensation for the earlier attack on Daughter Village. While Bai Chuan is distracted, Liu Feiyan retrieves the Green Bamboo Rod and Purple Gourd.
  • Bai Chuan attacks with cold-based Law Power. Sun Granny blocks the assault, though the clash reveals that Bai Chuan is injured and weakened from his previous battle with Shen Luo.
  • While Sun Granny and Liu Feixu face Bai Chuan, his shadow secretly attacks Liu Feiyan. It restrains and begins strangling her while remaining undetectable.
  • Liu Feixu senses her twin’s danger and exposes the shadow. During the ensuing struggle, the shadow breaks Liu Feiyan’s wrist and steals the Purple Gourd, though it fails to take the Green Bamboo Rod.
  • Sun Granny attacks the fleeing shadow, but it escapes into the canyon’s darkness. It then merges with Bai Chuan’s shadow, revealing that Bai Chuan and the shadow were working together.

Character Developments

  • Bai Chuan: Despite serious injuries and depleted strength, he remains calculating and aggressive. He uses deception and a concealed shadow technique rather than relying solely on direct combat.
  • Sun Granny: Displays caution and leadership, shielding the two sisters and confronting Bai Chuan while recognizing his weakened condition. She attempts to use the conflict to seize valuable treasures for Daughter Village.
  • Liu Feiyan: Successfully retrieves the treasures but becomes the target of the hidden shadow. Even while incapacitated, she holds tightly to the artifacts, resisting their theft until her wrist is broken.
  • Liu Feixu: Her strong bond with Liu Feiyan allows her to detect the attack and intervene. She acts quickly to protect her sister.
  • Origin-Devouring Coiled Silkworms: Their retreat into the Purple Gourd confirms that the artifact is connected to or capable of containing them.

  • Struggle over power and resources: The Purple Gourd and Green Bamboo Rod are treated as coveted magical treasures, with both sides justifying their claim to them.
  • Vulnerability beneath strength: Bai Chuan is formidable but weakened, forcing him to rely on strategy. Liu Feiyan appears defenseless but stubbornly resists surrendering the gourd.
  • Family bonds and mutual protection: The sisters’ connection enables Liu Feixu to sense Liu Feiyan’s danger and save her from being killed.
  • Consequences and compensation: Daughter Village’s demand for the treasures reflects the lingering damage caused by the Myriad Demons Alliance’s earlier attack.

Character Interactions

  • Bai Chuan and Sun Granny engage in a tense verbal and physical confrontation, each probing the other’s intentions and strength.
  • Sun Granny positions herself protectively before Liu Feiyan and Liu Feixu, while also directing their actions.
  • Liu Feiyan retrieves the artifacts under Sun Granny’s instructions, but Bai Chuan’s shadow turns her into the target of a surprise attack.
  • Liu Feixu intervenes to defend her sister, forcing the shadow to abandon its assassination attempt and steal only the Purple Gourd.
  • The chapter ends with the shadow returning to Bai Chuan, confirming their coordination and leaving the ownership of the remaining treasures unresolved.

Ch. 1915The Myriad Poisons Gourd

  • Bai Chuan vanished with the Myriad Poisons Gourd, leaving Liu Feixu unable to catch him as Sun Granny treated Liu Feiyan's broken wrist.
  • Sun Granny warned Liu Feiyan that Bai Chuan was a Taiyi Realm cultivator, then led the sisters behind the thatched cottage to attend to their own business.
  • Bai Chuan refined sixty-four layers of restrictions on the Myriad Poisons Gourd and tested its Origin-Devouring Coiled Silkworms, poisonous mist, and other venomous creatures.

  • Nie Caizhu warned Shen Luo that Northern Abyss Kun might be leading them into danger, and Shen Luo agreed to stay alert while pursuing Ao Hong and Yuan Qiu.

Ch. 1917A supreme treasure of the Buddhist School

Shen Luo uncovered Northern Abyss Kun’s true reason for helping him and agreed to assist him in obtaining a Buddhist treasure in exchange for rescuing Ao Hong and Yuan Qiu. After Manjushri and the Ape Ancestor entered the Demon Suppression Tower, Shen Luo and his companions followed, unaware that two figures watched their arrival from the tower’s top floor.

  • Shen Luo accused Northern Abyss Kun of attacking Ao Hong and the others, so Northern Abyss Kun admitted his avatar had fought them and taken Ao Hong’s scale.
  • Northern Abyss Kun revealed that he wanted Shen Luo’s help reaching the tower’s fifth floor to obtain a Buddhist treasure, and Shen Luo agreed in exchange for help rescuing Ao Hong and Yuan Qiu.
  • Manjushri and the Ape Ancestor arrived together, opened the Demon Suppression Tower’s entrance, and disappeared inside.
  • Fire Spirit Child returned to the Free-and-Easy Mirror, and Shen Luo, Northern Abyss Kun, and Nie Caizhu entered the tower.

Ch. 1918Demon Suppression Tower

Shen Luo and his companions crossed the Demon Suppression Tower’s first level, where freed demons and damaged puppet guards were still fighting. Northern Abyss Kun led them up to the second level, where he crushed another Golden-Bodied Strongman as it attacked.

  • Northern Abyss Kun explained that the tower had five spacious levels and that Ao Hong and the others had been on the second level.
  • A wounded Giant Strength Divine Ape attacked Shen Luo, who kicked it aside, but a Golden-Armored Puppet killed it before turning on the group.

  • The Tear Demon claimed the Ancestral Dragon Soul had taken Ao Hong and Yuan Qiu to the fifth floor as blood sacrifices, and Shen Luo gave her medicine to recover.
  • After the Tear Demon recovered, she led Shen Luo, Nie Caizhu, and the Northern Abyss Kun toward the next floor.
  • The Tear Demon suddenly stabbed Shen Luo with a poisoned black spike and tried to flee through the water-curtain passage.
  • Nie Caizhu and the Northern Abyss Kun attacked the Tear Demon, but most of her blue mist escaped into the fourth floor.
