Main World, September
Autumn rain, clear and cold, fell in scattered drops, bringing threads of chill. Half a day later, the rain passed and the sky cleared.
Construction of the city had basically come to a halt.
One thousand mu of wheat had been harvested, and most of it had been turned into seed for next month's planting.
All the roads had been rolled flat and even with horse-drawn stone rollers, awaiting only the laying of stone slabs.
The shipyard could now build standard fishing boats: ten meters long, four meters wide, with hulls only 1.5 meters high. Their freeboard was low and their draft shallow, making them suitable for sailing in nearshore waters; navigating among the dozen or so nearby islands would pose no problem either.
In the Noble District stood a villa.
The villa was enclosed by stone walls. Its interior was already quite exquisite, with glass windows and guards stationed around it; no one could cross over easily.
On the balcony of the small building, they drank tea and ate pastries as they looked out over the entire city.
"Lady Eileen, the city's infrastructure has finally been completed." Debiru let out a sigh of relief.
The so-called infrastructure was, in truth, merely the roads and several buildings in the dock district, along with a city construction blueprint. The work that followed was not something these mere 2,500 people could accomplish.
"Lord Debiru, we will establish a Mage Tower in this city. Would you be willing to serve as its Archmage?" Eileen asked.
An Archmage generally referred to a mage above Fifteenth Level, and could also refer to the leader of a Mage Tower.
Debiru did not answer immediately.
Debiru was a mage with two sons. His younger son was extremely frail and had nearly failed to survive.
