An endless plain stretched beneath the eye, a monotonous sweep of green.
Against the azure sky and the white clouds drifting above, it made a pleasing sight.
Several birds flew swiftly across the area. No one saw their bodies suddenly stiffen as they passed over one particular spot, then fall.
The moment they struck the earth, their lives were spent.
To an ordinary person, the place would have seemed perfectly safe. There were no beasts, nor any sign of Imps.
Romon knew better.
Riding on Lightning, Romon looked down from above.
Even without opening his Spirit Eye, his keen senses picked up the dreadful aura hanging over the ground below.
"The Negative Energy is getting stronger," Romon murmured. "This Necromancer won't be easy to deal with."
Lightning circled overhead, making low, throaty calls.
Romon patted him. "Take me closer."
Lightning instinctively recoiled from the power of death, but with his master aboard, he obeyed and descended.
As Lightning dropped, the terrain below came into clearer view.
Soon, they reached a hill.
From high above, it looked like a beautiful place.
Lush green plants grew at the valley entrance. Flowers swayed among them in the breeze, and their fragrance drifted through the air.
But one sweep of Romon's Spirit Eye laid bare the streams of dark Undead energy.
The woods were so dense that sunlight could not penetrate them.
Through his Spirit Eye, Romon saw thick black mist coiling around the trees and blocking the light.
Something shadowy moved within the forest.
Were those ghosts inside? Was this a Death Forest? But why weren't the trees withered? How were they still alive? Puzzled, Romon did not descend at once.
Still in the air, he drew out a book and flipped through it. It contained a brief account of Necromancers.
