Return (Part One)

Romon's tent was impressive. It was more than twice the size of the others and lavishly decorated, with an olive tree woven across the canvas in gold and silver thread.

Baron Mengpiya and Yexikan were waiting outside it.

It was already noon. A servant brought out flatbread and some meat. The meal was simple, but having even this much to eat was a luxury under the circumstances.

"Did you sleep well last night?"

"Very well, though I made some notes before I went to bed," Yexikan replied.

"How many times has Baron Teta Xiao attacked now?"

"Three times in three days. I hear he's killed three hundred Imps and two Greater Demons. Today's the fourth day, so this should be the final sweep, shouldn't it?" Yexikan said. "The cavalry went out several times too. They lost eight men, but apparently they won't be needed today. He can handle what's left."

Three days earlier, after eating with Lightning and resting for a while, Romon had taken to the sky again and returned to the town.

The first day had not been particularly busy for Romon. Following his plan, he bombarded the Imp army in the town from above once more.

This time, before he could set anything on fire, several Greater Demons flew up from below and engaged him and Lightning in battle.

Romon kept up the bombardment. After killing dozens of Imps, he rode Lightning swiftly away.

The demons had expected it, but as they watched the man and eagle fly off, their eyes still widened until they were red with fury.

Their hair stood on end as they cursed them in the demon tongue.

And for them, the torment had only begun.

For the next three days, Romon rode Lightning over the town every day, bombing the demon army
