Sunlight spilled across the deck, and the morning air carried the scent of seawater.

Workers pushed carts in and out, subject to the guards' inspections, while tax officials recorded everything at the side. It truly was an excellent method.

Ships that did not enter the warehouses and pay their taxes received no protection, and this supported many people.

Debiru even saw magnificent silk, foreign carpets, and exquisite glassware.

After only a few years apart, this place had actually developed into such a flourishing port!

Debiru lowered his gaze to the ground. Within the port, the important areas had all been built with bluestone, so they would not become pitted and muddy even when it rained. Even the less important areas had roads paved with gravel.
