The affair with the elves had kept the two princes locked in bitter infighting.

Meanwhile, a major reform was taking place in Rock Town.

It was a sweeping reform in education. Once implemented, it could change many people's destinies, setting them on paths entirely different from those their lives would otherwise have taken.

Strictly speaking, this reform was neither an invention of the Tatshaw Territory nor unique on the continent.

At present, however, very few people still undertook such a venture.

That venture was the establishment of an academy, one devoted to training druids.

There were many reasons why so few private individuals on the continent were willing to do this.

The three most important were funding, teaching staff, and returns.

The issue of funding hardly needed explaining. Building an academy?

How could that possibly cost a small amount?

Establishing a druid academy was not a matter of finding a room and furnishing it with a dozen sets of desks and chairs!

Although nobles had money, they had even more things to spend it on. Whether they wanted to consolidate their power or enjoy a more comfortable life, they needed money.

That was only the first reason. The next two were the real sticking points.

In this world, there were plenty of things money alone could not necessarily accomplish.

If money alone could accomplish everything, the merchant companies operating across the continent would surely have overthrown their countries and established governments of their own long ago.

Establishing a druid academy without a druid of level eleven or above presiding over it was practically impossible.

The final reason might seem the least important of the three. In reality, for most nobles, it was the chief reason they had no interest whatsoever in running an academy.

The druid profession emphasized nature.
