Capital City outskirts · A courtyard
It was deep into the night. There was no one about; everyone had gone to bed.
The two shadows exchanged a hand signal and vaulted in together. But the moment they entered, there came a muffled thud and a brief scuffle—then silence.
"They're inside!" Someone outside the courtyard drew his blade and swept it out. "Shoot!"
All twelve were archers. Without a word, there came a soft thrum. After the neatly synchronized twang of bowstrings, several screams immediately rang out from across the way.
In teams of six, the thirty-six men formed six groups. Their steps moved as one, thin armor covering their bodies and long blades glinting coldly. At the command, they charged silently inside.
They met over a dozen men head-on, each using martial arts. The six men swung their blades together. "Kill!"
"Ah..." The cold flashes slashed down. They looked utterly ordinary, yet the instant they fell, shrieks rose one after another, and bodies on the other side dropped in heaps.
One expert refused to accept this. He lunged forward at speed, blade-light biting coldly as man and saber became one.
"Kill!" Six flashes of steel cut in from every angle. With a pfft, two saber-wielders fell, but the remaining three blade-lights pierced into his body. The expert rushed more than a yard onward, as if wanting to say something, but no words came. He fell dead with a crash.
"Brother Cao..." someone shouted, disbelief written all over his face.
"Kill! With me, we are invincible."
The situation gradually became clear. Several dozen black-clad men charged out with overbearing force, their blade-lights working in concert. The archers behind them also formed groups of three, each group concentrating its fire.
