Su Ziji was about to reply to the Monster when he suddenly spotted a young woman in splendid robes below the steps. Her body remained still, but she was making eyes at him and gesturing with her hands.
She had delicate features and raven-black hair simply pinned up in an ordinary bun, exposing her long, pale neck. Though she wore splendid robes like the other Monsters, their colors and cut were more to human taste. At least Su Ziji did not find them painful to look at; he thought they looked rather good.
This female Monster's bearing was different from the others', too. As Su Ziji watched her, her slender, fair fingers clearly traced out two words.
For an instant, the way she looked at him stirred a sense of familiarity in Su Ziji.
Be careful? Was she warning me to be careful?
Once he recognized the words, Su Ziji felt even more unsettled. Through the Dragon Eyes, he knew she was Green Hill's representative: a Big Fox.
"She's the lord of Green Hill, the clan leader of this generation, and one of my trusted ministers."
As in the human world, some important Monster clans held bestowed titles. Green Hill had originally held the rank of count, but because of its special relationship with Emperor Shizu of Great Wei, it had been raised to marquis.
In the blink of an eye, however, the young woman's expression cooled. Her gaze met Su Ziji's, and she seemed puzzled by her own actions. She lowered her hand in confusion, stepped forward, and respectfully reminded him, "Dragon Lord, the auspicious hour has arrived. Shall we begin the rainfall?"
At her words, the other Monsters all turned to look at Su Ziji.
