A dozen or so minutes later, Xiu Fei'er sat on the roof of an apartment building, gazing at the night sky without a word.
Below her lay a street that had been reduced to ruins.
Just then, a middle-aged man downstairs carefully picked his way along the rubble-strewn road, looking around as he went.
He raised his head toward the gray-haired girl on the roof, cupped his hands around his mouth, and shouted:
"Where is she?"
Xiu Fei'er did not look down at him. She merely answered calmly:
"She got away."
"Got away?" The man frowned slightly.
Before he could say anything else, Xiu Fei'er dropped straight down alongside the wall, free-falling to the ground.
She brushed the dust off her skirt and spread her hands.
"We underestimated that Calamity Witch. Even though she's nowhere near as strong as she used to be, she still has power that reaches the abyssal tier."
"Besides, I can't use any more power here in the city."
The man's mouth opened, then he asked, "Couldn't you trap her in a domain?"
"Can't."
"Huh?"
"I don't know how to use domains. Brute force is all I've got."
Xiu Fei'er folded her arms and lifted her head to look at the man, answering without a trace of shame.
"Uh, well..."
Before the man could continue, Xiu Fei'er waved impatiently. "Enough. I've memorized her aura. Catching her is only a matter of time, so there's no rush. If there's nothing else, I'm heading back."
With that, the girl left without looking back, leaving the man staring blankly at the ruined street before him.
After leaving the man's sight and walking a little farther, Xiu Fei'er suddenly stopped.
She turned her head, gazed at the distant sky, and murmured:
"Prolora, what exactly are you trying to do...?"
