"Don't mention it. I've got a headache already."
Jiraiya poured himself a cup of wine and downed it in one gulp, then followed it with a second and a third. Only after three cups did he begin pouring out his troubles:
"I admit I let Nawaki down, but kids at that age are just too hard to placate."
"They might rationally refrain from making a fuss, but once they get angry, it's incredibly difficult to win them over again."
"What else can you do?"
Jingyi calmly placed some meat onto the grill and said at an unhurried pace:
"You can only take it one step at a time. Make up for the companionship you owed him, treat him as well as you can, and let him feel your concern and how much you value him. Don't even think about making up with him anytime soon. You'll have to let time wear things down."
"Still, there's some good news."
"What good news?"
Jiraiya looked confused.
I'm already in this state. What good news could there possibly be?
Jingyi smiled and cursed him.
"You brought this on yourself. You can't blame anyone else. The good news is that Nawaki's an optimistic person with a straightforward personality. People like that remember it when you treat them well, so count yourself lucky."
"If he were the petty sort, something like this could make him hold a grudge against you for the rest of his life."
Jingyi wasn't joking. This sort of thing was common.

And in the Shinobi World, being hated by someone was no small matter.
There were far too many examples of people causing massive disasters
